Congrats SMC

SMC played a great game. Tough team to beat. Their defense is stiffling and Gonzaga had no game plan.



They took Sacre completely out of his game. Either that or Gonzaga completely forgot they had Sacre...couldn't really tell.



Gonzaga in the end couldn't take care of the ball.

Agree, good game SMC. I still don't understand the chant, "Overated", when you beat a ranked team. Doesn't that just say they're not as good as you thought instead of that your team is actually better than they're ranked? Maybe they should be chanting, "Underrated!"

I dislike it as well, for the same reasons. But between various chants, court rushes, field rushes, etc. over the last year or so, I've decided - I'm just gonna ignore fan conduct. College kids are gonna be college kids.

Final Score: SMC 83, GU 62.



According to Greg Wrubell:



The 21 point defeat is the largest point deficit since losing to BYU by 22 points in the 2011 NCAA tournament.



Our recent 16-point loss at SMC doesn't seem as bad after the Gonzaga loss.



The home game against the Gaels on Jan. 28 at the Marriott Center will be epci and hopefully will be payback time.

Im not surprised. I know our defense was lacking. I know they shot lights out. BUt that is a very good basketball team who has a knock-out mentality. AND, a point to prove regarding ranking and who is the top dog in the Conference, and yes, payback for years of domination by GU in the conference.

It did feel redeaming to see another big dog go in there and get bagged. SMC is a tough team on their own floor. Luckily our return game with them in Provo is on a Saturday. I imagine it's been awhile since SMC played before as many folks that will be there at the MC on the 28th.

Overrated is the worst chant in sports. I wasn't overly impressed by either team last night.



I don't think either team can/will come to Provo and leave with a win.

Overrated--I don't know, but I have noticed we debate that same topic year in and year out. Some don't like it, other do. I personally don't dislike it. It is a very in your face chant as you are claiming your opponent, which is ranked higher or favored as they come into your gym, must have been overrated because you just now took them to town. I see the argument point that in essence that the fans then are denigrating their win, but I don't see it that way.

I'm pretty sure "no means no" is the worst chant in sports. Anyone who chants it has got to have a black spot on their soul.



As for Sacre, the guy has sucked all year long and is a shell of his former self.

Sacre...you mean...he who moves with his feet nailed to the floor.



GU's front court was horrible. Pangos, IMO does a bad job of feeding the post. Stockton is a much better passer. Must be in his genes or something...

When they are playing in front of more than have been to every one of their home games so far.



I was wondering where the great offended one was too. In comparing the two games I think we played much better but they just shot lights out against us. I can see us winning the conf title. Take care of business at home and get GU on their floor and we should be good to go. We have been there and done it before, matter of fact did it twice last year, at SDST and at UNLV. So I am optomistic we can run the table.

Wasn't it two years ago we got blown out by unlv in LV by about 25 then returned the favor at home by about 30? Dave Rose is one coach who knows how to get stronger as conference play progresses and always has a great record in February.
