Most Humiliating Loss This Season - Perspective

I didn't say most frustrating. That would be Texas. It was in the bag and then we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. TCU was next most frustrating - we had a chance for the first time in years and we had Riley, but he was sputtering, yet we scored 28 - which should have been, but was not, enough - due to special teams punting meltdown of epic proportions.



Most humiliating was Utah. I won't make a poll. I think we all know which loss was most humiliating - and even more so if you hate the Utes and have to live and or work in Utah.



Time for Perspective. We had one humiliating loss - not a dozen.



Texas won its Bowl game. We ended the season better than we were when Texas beat us by 1 point on their home field. A 1 and done or 2 for 1 depending on how you look at it. Stupid idea. Tulsa is as good as Texas. We beat Tulsa.



Utah won its Bowl game. Utah went 8-5 after losing thier starting QB and having to retool and switch to a guy that was supposed to be D-3 or something last year. Utah nearly beat USC in LA right before beating us. We ended the season a far better team than we were the day Utah beat us. They were not as good at the end of the season and still won a bowl game against a worthy opponent. Still a humiliating loss - arch rival - our home field - in it at halftime - blowout of galactic proportions - but just one - and we made a huge change at QB and the entire team got much better.



TCU won its Bowl game. TCU beat Boise State on the Blue Turf with BSU having a senior QB - best ever - senior laden team. We played them at their place. 1 and done. Stupid idea. We gave it away - and still kept it close.



If we had chosen the right QB in the Spring - all three of these games were winnable. We still might have lost all three of them. Most likely we win one or more and the blowout does not happen.



2011 was a disappointment for many - probably most. It could have been worse.



Imagine RIley was prepped from Spring. Imagine Riley puts Texas away before Texas comes to their senses and pulls their QB with all the POTENTIAL and goes with grit and toughness. Imagine two more points. Imagine even if BYU loses to Utah and TCU - no quit in the team and no meltdown. 11-2 ranked in the Top 15. We came that close and it could have been even better than that.



If our inexperienced coaches are learning - the future is bright once we quit overscheduling. We will win at least 8 next year barring injury to Riley. Maybe more. Maybe a lot more. 2013 will be a problem - a schedule induced problem.

Time to be thankful for what we have. 75% or more of D1 schools would love to have it.

Another thing, who is willing to trade the win over Oregon State for a win over Texas?



We would assume all the humiliation of losing to a 4-8 team that we had no business losing to.



But, we would have beaten what is now a ho hum 7-6 Texas team. Sure, big name but not a big season, again.



If you do that, then you have the 1994 season. Sure, BYU went on the road and beat Notre Dame (6-5-1), but also lost 36-15 to Arizona State which finished the year 3-8.



Yes, the losses in 2011 gave a lot of pain and suffering for fans, but it shouldn't be cast aside as a crummy season.

I hope the next thread is what was the most annoying loss. Then what was the most fungible loss. Then what was the most productive loss.



Can I get a emotive loss? how about a profusive loss?

Correction: We played them in their practice stadium. I read that TCU practiced there due to construction at their place which was also why the Bowl Game was held at SMU this year instead of AC. But you are right - it was the old unneutral neutral site - not a true home game at ACS.
