Just back from the game. It was enjoyable to own a game from start to finish.



Zylstra was rock solid. Each game someone comes out to lead the team. I like our team defense concept. We stayed in zone quite a low and with USF shooting cold as ice it worked.



Officiating descent the first half and then digressed to where we normally expect it. Saw a couple ghost calls again. The last two minutes were a lot more interesting than usual in a route. I loved listening to some of the play back of Greg Wrubell's comments regarding USF coaches use of time out at the end. Love Austin's dunk to end the game to send the message.



Was surprised driving home to hear Marc Lyons call USF coach's last two-minute antics "classless". When have we had a BYU announcer make that kind of a statement about an opposing coach?

That is why Zylstra can't be afraid to shoot. This team is better when Zylstra shoots the ball. When he's afraid to shoot and relinquishes shot making duties to others BYU suffers. He's a team leader that needs to step up, not shrink in the moment.

Easy there Marc. If he wants to stick around and feel the "spirit" in the MC a bit longer, he can.



I missed the game. But did just see the Nate Austin putback at the end. That guy is a stud.

Why was BYU trying so hard to score in the last minute, instead of dribbling out the final clock? The crowd loved it, and the energy was still high, on and off of the court. But in a home blowout win over a lesser conference opponent, it did seem unusual. I hope San Fran fans don't get too upset about us being classless or anything like that.

My feeling, and what I pull from the comments Greg Wrubell made during the last two minutes of the game, that we reacted to their coach using every one of his timeouts being down by twenty-five points. They were actually pretending the game was close and everyone, including the BYU bench and media, seemed puzzled by the Don's actions. As Marc Lyons stated, they have seen many, many BYU games, and this was the rare time when, because SF was trying so hard to pretend this was a real and tight game, to not dribble the ball out with ten seconds left and take a shot. More than anything, I think Nate Austin was carried away by the moment as were the rest of us.

On the reason for all of the late time outs, the coach of the Dons said this: “I wanted to piss off all the people in the state of Utah.” He was kidding. I think.

Another funny recap, stated as only Jay Drew could:



"BYU's Nick Martineau -- the only player who hadn't scored in the game -- lofted a shot at the rim with four seconds remaining. The shot missed, and the ending probably would have been forgotten at that point, except for the fact that freshman center Nate Austin soared high for the rebound, and slammed the ball through the hoop with about a second left. The students were delirious, having qualified for a treat at Yogurtland, and Austin celebrated like he had just made a game-winning shot instead of a meaningless dunk at the end of a blowout. USF coach Rex Walters had a bemused, quizzical look on his face, maybe some disgust, as he surveyed that scene, and his handshake in the postgame line with Rose was quick and rather cold."

Austin's dunk was awesome. His celebration afterwards was...odd. I think he got carried away with the student section cheering as he didn't start to celebrate until well after the dunk.



SF coach taking time outs and drawing up plays was dumb. Understand he was trying to "coach" his team and use the game at that point as a practice, but when you're down by 30 it's time to call it day. Go back, watch your deplorable performance on tape and then draw up some plays.
