Noah Hartsock named WCC player of the month

Congratulations to Noah, not only for looking identical to my brother in law, but also for being named the WCC Player of the Month! This is a great honor considering how many great players that there are in the league.



BYU is certainly lucky to have him!

BYU senior Noah Hartsock is the West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Month for December. The Oklahoma native averaged 17.9 points per game on 58% shooting, while pulling down six rebounds per game in leading the Cougars to a 7-2 month. Hartsock scored 19 or more points five times during the month, and connected on 38-of-45 free throw attempts (84.4%). Hartsock blocked 15 shots during the month, including four in a victory over Oregon and four in a win at Utah.

Way to go Noah! now if he and Davies can keep up this tear and our guard play can continue to improve, this team could do well come tournament time in Vegas.

Hi - I've been lurking here for a while, but a first time poster (GU fan who grew up in Rock Springs, WY).



The best Gonzaga board is GU boards - there are links there to all the other WCC team message boards (which is how I found this one). I'm not exactly sure how to do a link on this board, but the message board links thread is here: http://guboards.spokesmanreview.com/showthread.php?t=166



I must say, BYU has made this the most interesting WCC race in a while, since USD was really good and we got 3 tourney teams in a few years back. I'm really looking forward to an interesting Feb that starts and (almost) ends with BYU-GU games.



Hartsock is abolutely deserving of PoM - actually, he kind of reminds me of Dower for GU, though Sam is less consistent (and only a Soph - still lots of time/room for improvment from Dower).

Those are really the only active boards. Have fun, Spiff. The SMC board is particularly entertaining with all the Zag fans coming on and congratulating them on beating BYU. I find it funny because you know if towards the end of the season if a BYU win over SMC meant a Gonzaga championship (very possible) all the Zags would suddenly become BYU fans. We're all self-serving.



I'll sum up their sentiments. Basically, they are gratefule BYU is in the conference because it increases exposure and the strength of the conference. Beyond that, they don't like us. They all think BYU fans are self righteous, high on themselves (isn't every fan), and that BYU will leave the WCC the moment we win a WCC championship.



Understandably, they are high on their conference and don't understand why BYU would think it's a "step down." I don't necessarily believe it's a step down, but it certainly wasn't a step up for BYU. They don't seem to realize BYU's fan section alone seats more than 5,000 students - 1,500 more than SMC's entire gym and just 1,000 shy of Gonzaga's mighty MAC.



SMC is particularly threated by BYU because as they put it they have "clawed" their way to 2nd place and have positioned themselves as the primary Gonzaga killers and they don't want BYU to take over that spot. Again, I find this funny because rather than focus on beating Gonzaga they've shifted their focus to beating BYU - fight for 2nd place you often end up 2nd place.
