Utes Runnin' Scared

The first hints started to come out during the summer when U of U AD "Doctor" Chris Hill was interviewed on the radio. By what he said, you could tell he was looking for a way to not play BYU anymore. The thinking being, with a tough PAC 10.2 schedule, Utah feels it doesn't need a tough rivalry game against BYU. And that's even more the case now with them playing a Big Ten team every year.



Each year the Yewts will have 9 conference games. Plus 1 Big Ten game. And they have Utah State scheduled a few times in the next few years. So that leaves only 1 game remaining. Yes, they could fit BYU in there but they'll likely not want to give up their manufactured win against a D-II team for their opening game each season.



Naturally Yewt fans will act like they've moved onto bigger and better things and don't "need" to play BYU anymore. But it's obvious they would rather not risk losing to us.



Mark my words, the rivalry game happening from 2013 on is very questionable.

It seems to me like there is still quite a bit of Cougar envy up on the hill, even after they killed us, we then went on and had the better year.

I would be happy if BYU never played Utah again--they are unworthy of a game with BYU.

The Big 10 deal with the PAC 12 doesn't start until 2017...that's 2017, meaning we have 5 complete FB seasons before this happens (so much will happen by then, who really cares!). Also, as more info has come out, this is more a basketball and other sports, not so much FB.



I see the FB deal being more of a USC vs. OSU, Oregon vs. Nebraska, etc. Maybe a Utes vs. Indiana, wow, big time game there!



If the Utes really don't want to play us in the coming years, so be it. Look at what the 2013 FB schedule looks like already, but 2017, we will either be in the Big 12 (which may have 14 or 16 teams by then), or we'll be sitting pretty as an Independent with some sweet schedules, and the BCS will hopefully be where they take the top 10 teams, period, and have a plus 1 game.

The PAC is behind it--make no mistake. They are killing anything that gets in the way of their making as much $$$ as possible. traditions be damned if they get in the path of more $$$. Cal-Stanford is being played in October in 2012 as a result. So even huge rivalries within the PAC are getting affected by the new drive for media $$$.



The PAC sucks. I;d be fine with never playing a team from that league ever again, and looking east for games. Screw them all.

Curious how Utah dumps a series with Boise State under the guise of making themselves available to continue the BYU series, and now that goes away. Neither Boise State or BYU are that guaranteed win that they need to survive.

When you're playing power houses like Colorado every year, well, you can't take any chances.

This is what I think will happen-

BYU has open dates on Sept. 14 and 21. The only dates that Utah could possibly play the game.



My understanding is that the PAC12/Big10 agreement will be in place BY 2017 but could start as early as 2013 for certain teams that have open dates available. Utah has only USU scheduled for 2013.



BUT...if Utah gets a Big 10 opponent on the road I don't think they will go to LES too. The same reason the BSU game was bought out. Utah would not have gone to LES this year if they had BSU on the road too.



If the Big 10 thing doesn't happen in 2013 or they get a home game out of it I wouldn't be surprised to see @BYU added especially since USU will be at RES and if the PAC rotation SHOULD give them 5 home and 4 road that season but I'm not sure because the rotation of teams changes for 2013/2014.



Personally, I think Utah is simply waiting to see how the schedules shake out before making a decision on BYU for 2013. If they happen to have 4 home conference games, @Big 10, USU home, the Utes have 1 more game to schedule and you can bet your bottom dollar it will be a home game.

I think Utah is turning a suggestion into a commandment. Does the Pac-12 prefer that all nonconference games be scheduled in September? Sure. If Utah pushed for it could they play BYU every year in November? ABSOLUTELY. The Pac-12 had no problem scheduling Arizona-ULL in November last year and Stanford-ND in November this year. Heck, the OSU-BYU game was moved to October since the September Only edict was proclaimed.



Utah has way more blood on their hands regarding this issue than the Pac-12.



I also believe playing Pac-12 teams is tremendously important for BYU. It is important for recruiting and alumni in those areas. Not playing Pac-12 teams would be scheduling suicide for BYU.

Basketball? Absolutely. It's not even interesting anymore. It is still just as fun pounding them. :D



Football? LOL! Pukes are 7-3 against us in the last 10 years outscoring us by over 100 points. I think in our 3 victories we outscored them by 10. I'm sure the football guys up there are envious of us. :roll:
