Which Addition Are You Most Excited About For 2012

Newbies. True Freshman. Redshirt Freshmen. RMs that played, left, and will now be back. Redshirts. Injured players. JC transfers. Guys on the team that did not play in 2011.



Ground rule is I said addition. It has to be someone that did not play in 2012. These are the guys that have to replace or improve on the guts who are leaving.



You have to pick one and explain why. It might not be the best player - it should be the one who will contribute the most in 2012. Maybe the best player. Maybe the one that fills the biggest void. OL. Safety. FB. DL. RB. TE.



Name your guy. Say why. I am not sure who I will pick. I will ponder this a bit, then enter my choice. Maybe Matthews. Maybe Pritchard. Chambers? I may go with Dulan.

Adam Hine

Iona Pritchard. Has to be. If he's as good as Bronco said and it was as devastating as the coaches seemed to emotionally indicate, he could make (along with Hine and Alisa) make our world a much happier place.

I am also going with Pritchard. Blocking. Power running. Pass catching. Did I mention blocking - run blocking, pass blocking, picking up blitzes. This fills a huge void IMHO and Pritchard has a lot of hype. I am not big on hype, which was my only hesitation here - but this is a big void to fill, so I am excited to see if Pritchard can put that potential on the field.



Dangerous move taking hype over experience - nearly went with Dulan since I believe in experience - but the need is slightly less on DL due to having a number of options.

I'm really excited to see what Adam Hine can do, but if Prichard is as good as his press I will vote for him. If Prichard is the guy, I wonder how Alisa would do at tight end?

Bronson Kafusi. Been waiting two years to see him. His dad is a stud, and he could bebthe pass rush DE we have been waiting for.



And Craig Bills

I have been waiting sinse Adam Hine's junior year in HS to see him take the field at BYU. I think this kid is one of the best talents Byu has recruited, and believe that he will be an instant impact. That being said, and my vote duly registered, I think Prichard running interference for him and doing the power running will have a similar impact. I'm also excited to see what Kaufusi can do, and sooo happy to see Dulan coming back. I think the talent in the wings, and those growing from underclassmen to the experienced leaders, is very exciting. How many days till September?????????

My vote, although the position is not as visible - is Ryker Matthews, heir apparent to Matt Reynolds. Our OL needs to step it up and live up to its billing as being dominant. Ready to see him bring some nastiness and run blocking prowess that we need on a consistent basis.

I'm excited for experience. Doman has more of it at the OC position. Cahoon has some at the WR coach position. Dupaix has some in the BYU culture now. Riley finally has some as a starting QB at BYU. Alisa has some at RB. Apo has some at WR.

Experience. You have to gain it. You can't just buy it. And that is the irony of our QB woes the past two years. One tried to buy experience in the off-season while the other gained it trough experiencing it.

Sheesh Bib, I gave up trying to confront every jab, jibe, and cut you and others made on jake. And I took it on the chin, maybe rightly so. But, How long you going to keep living out your pain or flexing your muscles saying "I told you so"?

Kaufusi. I had heard from a family member that he might switch to the Oline. Anybody else heard anything? I will attempt to get an update.



Ryker. It would be great if he could bring some nastiness.

Kaufusi I am most excited but I would bet he redshirts this year. Dulan just redshirted so he will have a big impact on the D. Ryker on the O.

Hine, Taysom Hill, and Jason Munns. Munns qualifies because I've never seen him in a game. With Riley's style of play, it's highly likely we'll see either Hill, Munns, or Lark. Probably Lark, I suppose.

I'm excited to see Lark play. Hill NEEDS to redshirt to avoid the Heaps trap, Munns has two more years, and hasn't distinguished himself yet. Lark was neck and neck with Riley in camp without any playing time and not many reps as the third string QB. I think he'll show us something when he hits the field with an actual chance to play in competitive time. That WILL happen at some point during the season, just as a matter of reality in the world of RN at QB.

My experience comment is not just about Jake. He needs more. He will get more. It was about a general tendency that has been there in this fan base and maybe every fan base for vocal fans to toss the experienced players (JJ, Kariya, Riley, Uale, Jacobsen, Ashworth, for example) and coaches (Chow, Edwards, Crowton, Hill, Anae, Reynolds, the receivers and line coaches for example) because we know their imperfections and the replacements - well they are perfect until they get here - and then the cycle repeats. Take Crowton for example. Hyped beyond belief on the way in to replace Edwards, who some felt was beyond his prime. Then after the unrealistic expectations - comes the big crash and burn.



Sometimes changes are needed. It was time for Hill to go. It was naive to swap out the OC and staff and scheme with an inexperienced QB and not expect a steep learning curve. Our early

season schedules do not allow for steep learning curves.



I realize I used Jake as an ironic example - but last year I took a lot of heat about that 2nd to last sentence.



So Doman was deitized and nearly crashed and burned in the fire of unrealistic expectations by the 2nd half of the Texas game. I guess he and Jake had a short honeymoon.



As you know - I am an old codger. Old guys value experience. It is all they have left.

I'm also going with Hine. It seems like I was wanting Hine to be a Cougar before I saw Max Hall take a single snap - that's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNGGG time!
