2012 issues to address

Here is my list:



1) offensive line play. Biggest disappointment of the year in my book. They looked poor vs. A small Tulsa team, and got beat up good against every decent team we played. Ole Miss, Texas, Utah, TCU, UCF and Tulsa. With that experience, they massively underperformed. Especially the interior line.



2) Doman. His teams looked I'll prepared in big games. Really was hard to figure out our identity this year. Riley brought grit and backyard playmaking, and that masked #1 and 2 on my list. Doman has to get much better at breaking teams down.



3) tight ends. Still an issue. Were better than last year, but still not great.

3a) fullbacks. Let's hope Pritchard improves this. Would love to see a triple threat fullback again. (block, run, catch).



Love the D, and their attitude. They will be even better next year too

Shack on every point. Versus Tulsa I wasn't sure if it was just poor o-line pass blocking or exceptional Tulsa pass rush, but I didn't think they had it together most of the time.



The Matt Reynolds block and the fact that BYU won went a long way toward forgiveness. :)

One of the biggest issues is the safety positions and field corner. I just don't see a clear cut replacement for uale and sorenson doesn't look like his job is absolutely locked down and Johnson didn't exactly look stellar in his appearances this year.



O line has been and always will be a concern under weber

O-line play is our biggest issue. It was a major component of our poor QB play, and RB play. It was an unacceptable year for the o-line.

At least our LBs are all-world!

Running back with size and blazing speed - one that does not get caught from behind. Oh - has to be able to catch passes.

I question the toughness of our defense. They quit in the Utah game. They puckered against Texas in the 2nd half. They completely and totally folded every time a negative offensive and special teams play happened against TCU.



This defense was very average forcing fumbles and making plays behind the line of scrimmage including sacks. Thank goodness for Kyle Van Noy or this defense probably would have been below average. I want to see a smarter and tougher defense next year to go along with the aforementioned issues on offense.

You people talk about the o-line play as if it's ever great, but it hasn't been--well at least not on run-blocking. I never expect our oline to be great because we just can't get those kinds of athletes to come here for whatever reason. But we have certainly had great TE's in the past and that should be our #1 focus.



Taking everything that is returning in mind, our defense will be really good again next year so we just need to finally pair that up with a really good offense. We lack playmakers outside of Hoffman. Get a TE and utilize Alisa and next year we might finally have a little bit of explosiveness. TE comes first.

Are you serious. Vs Utah - under Heaps leadership - the guy that skipped 63 of 66 offseason workouts. They folded - totally agree.



But TCU? Go take a look at what TCU put up on average in terms of rushing, passing, total yards and even points - then look at what BYU Defense held them to. You have to adjust the points part by the 4 gifts from the punting team, 2 or 3 from Riley, and iirc, a missed field goal or two giving TCU great field position.

Yes. Forget the numbers against TCU. Look at the situations. I posted about this before:



TCU starts with the ball at the BYU 6 after the messed up punt play, and then score a TD in two plays. BYU couldn't even get them to 3rd down.



TCU starts with the ball at the BYU 47 after a Nelson pick. Thankfully TCU self destructs by commiting a penalty on 2nd and 10 at the BYU 32 forcing TCU to punt after running six plays.



TCU starts with the ball at the BYU 37 after an awful punt. THREE plays later they score a TD. Once again, zero 3rd downs.



TCU starts with the ball at the BYU 45 with 49 seconds left after yet another bad punt that netted 16 yards. TWO plays later TCU scores yet another TD. Obviously, zero 3rd downs again.



TCU starts with the ball at the BYU 38 after once again a craptacular punt play. The D really makes them work for it here, FIVE plays and a TD. Once again, zero 3rd downs.



So to recap, five times TCU started with the ball in BYU territory after terrible play by our offense and special teams and our defense picks up the team by giving up 4 TDs and forcing 3rd down only once. That's just plain soft.
