TH quote on future bowl contracts

Tom Holmoe was quoted as saying he has been in contact with better bowls for a contract starting in 2014. Which bowls do you think we could be in the running for?



Holiday bowl is an obvious one. how about Sun bowl or Alamo bowl?

Insight would be awesome. But I suspect holiday, if rumors are true at all.

Most likely it would be a few bowls. For example Holiday would get first chance to take us, if they pass Sun gets next pick, if we are still open Poinsetta then Las Vegas.



Arm Forces was a good game but it ahd one of the lowest payouts Las Vegas paid more.

There would be too many conferences that would have to agree to let BYU encroach on their bowl game. I could see the Big 12 working out an arrangement like that, but can you imagine the Pac 12 working with us like that? Please. Hopefully ESPN will work something out, since they basically own the bowl system now.

As long as the match up ended up being good I'd be happy with the Vegas Bowl or even the Idaho Potato Bowl. Both are easy drives. I'm not driving to Texas or California for a bowl game.

Notre Dame has agreements with several bowls. The Holiday had a pair of 7-5 teams. I am sure they were not happy about that. The Big12 is short 2 teams so their bowls are getting shafted right now. My guess is CA, AZ or TX is likely. Next year we will be in San Francisco.

A TX bowl tie-in isn't the worst thing in the grand scheme. It all but guarantees us a game there each year. Not a bad deal for recruiting purposes.



However, a San Diego bowl isn't a bad deal either from a fan footprint standpoint.

As much as we have panned the Las Vegas Bowl, I've never missed seeing BYU in one in person. I love going to that bowl. I would also hit up the Holiday and Emerald bowls.

Wasn't the Holiday Bowl Texas vs Cal? Two teams with very strong fans and strong football tradition (even if they're not the top of the world this year)? I think the Holiday Bowl was feeling pretty good about getting Texas and Cal. Not sure they would have traded either for BYU this year.

If I was TH, I would have a bowl list for the future as follows:



1) Holiday Bowl-- location and tradition. Need a SoCal game. Game date ok enough.

2) Insight Bowl-- great location, good venue. Good game date.

3) Las Vegas Bowl-- great location, but awful stadium. Awful game date.

4) Cotton Bowl-- great venue, great date.



I'd love Fiesta, but do not see it. Unless the BCS ends.

I could see Cotton if we are 11-1, Holiday if 10-2, Insight if 9-3, Vegas at least 6 wins.

Actually, the Insight Bowl would probably be ahead of the Holiday Bowl--they're higher up the Big XII totem pole (#4) than the Holiday Bowl (#5).



If anything, I see BYU having at most two options: a higher tier for 9+ wins (Holiday Bowl, etc.) and a lower one for 6-8 wins (Poinsettia, etc.).
