Riley's INTs

I'm putting together my RER for the game. I know one INT was thrown towards Apo, to whom was the other errant pass going?

Falslev -- sort of...pass walkway off

Too bad it doesn't count the other 3 that were in the hands of Tulsa defenders that they didn't pull in. Nelson did throw 2 ugly INTs, but it could have been much worse.

Yeah, it was a very ugly game for Riley. It could have been much worse.

Yeah, it's funny like that, it also doesn't count the throws that receivers didn't catch, because we're not Ole Miss ;)

BTW - and nobody has mentioned it - even Hoff dropped at least one very catchable ball. BYU was not sharp and not well prepared. That is on the coaches.



And Riley took play-calling and clock mgmt into his own hands at the end of the game - priceless.



The offense was not prepared for Tulsa speed and quickness. Too many I'll-advised attempts to go sideways.



Riley was inaccurate - IDZk why othervthan Tulsa pressure - but Riley usually makes decent throws while being hit.



The one Tulsa defender seems to have spotted some tendency that Nelson telegraphs - seemed to know right where certain passes were going.

OK Bib, we'll give that to RN. That would make him 18-40 instead of 17. :-)

Hey, 3 Hail-Riley's for his effort!! He fought through the team's lack of intensity and mental prep, his own occasional duck-itis with a rare flavor of overthrow-itis. We saw a little bit of last year Riley and a just enough of this year Riley. He didn't even seem his usual quick during the first half. The whole team, even KVN didn't seem very fleet-footed the first half. The defense recovered more quickly after the first drive, except for po po picked on Corbeeasy-to-throw on. He regularly looked lost and picked on.

I think Bronco forecasted this when he said: "The team is prepared" or however he said it. What I thought he wasn't saying by saying what he said, was: "I've prepared them, now they have to step up and play tough and I can't guarantee that."

As for too many ill-advised sideways plays--since when do we ever go side-to-side very well against teams with average to better speed? We suck at trick plays--save RN's cool Marino re-make.

From a game plan point of view, I thought BYU very prepared for the game. We know the defense was well prepared and held Tulsa to their worst offensive game of the year.



The offense had guys open, our QB just missed them. The plays were there, just not well executed. Riley stunk yesterday. If he was even average, BYU wins by 20.



BYU knew what to do against Tulsa, they just couldn't execute well enough offensively. I thought we had good game plans on both sides of the ball. Minus very poor accuracy by the QB, the game wouldn't have been close.

Good post Spiff, the offense had opportunities, that were just missed, it reminded me of the UCF game and USU games in that regard.

One issue the local media picked up on before the game was the start time (10 am UT time) vs what BYU had become used to (evening starts through Nov). I didn't really buy in to it (the Hawaii game was early by comparison to the Nov games) until I saw the first few series. I thought it took the team about an hour to get really going. I wonder if there were players that had to force themselves to eat breakfast because they just aren't used to it...
