What do the BBall & Football teams have in common?

We win the obvious scheduled W's, but can't show up and beat a quality opponent. Vegas seems to understand this and had us loosing tonight and tomorrow.

I know there should be zero correlation between what happened at SMC and what will happen vs Tulsa, but I have a sick feeling there will be a similar huge offensive output that byu won't be able to keep up with. Hope I'm wrong.

Umm...so beating a top ten team twice last season doesn't count? And don't forget the Sweet 16 run with Anderson and Magnuson getting 15+ minutes a game.



Sorry, when it comes to not showing up at big games the football team leads the way.



BYU basketball is the only one of the two to do anything relevant on a national level.



We're rebuilding our backcourt this season. None of our guards have any legitimate D1 experience (Zylstra getting mop up duty last season doesn't count). Mistakes will be made. They are learning.

Amen. The bball team has proven itself, but football still has a ways to go to get back to national respect.

But prior to this year the bball team didn't prove itself either, so much as jimmer proved himself. Before Jimmer's junior year we were the perennial one and done team.



Jimmer was an anomaly, without him these two teams are pretty similar in years past. I am forever grateful he gave us that season last year, and I hope we can make it past the frst round in the tourney without him soon. The future is bright, so here is hoping.

Wasn't Jimmer part of the team? I don't think you put Jimmer on UVU or UofU and get the same result. You can't discredit a team because they had one dominant player. Anomoly or not, the team bet those ranked teams.

Bold Prediction - this team will enter the Conference Tournament with 8 losses or fewer. Not great. Decent rebuilding season. Next year will get better - but we will miss Hartsock.

Not exactly going out on a limb for that prediction Bib. 4 more losses? Who do you count, gonzaga twice, Virginia, SMC at home or San Francisco there? I would consider 4 more losses a failure.

It seems to me that they played very competitivly in all the losses, but lost their composure. Hopefully that will change as the season goes on and the guards, particularly Carlino, get more comfortable, and have more game experience at this level. I'm also encouraged to see Davies come out of his funk and start dominating. They have enough talent to play at the level they played at last year. The bigs are vastly improved (thank you Coach Pope). They have a lot of depth. They even have a playmaker who looks a lot like Jimmer (yeah, I know, he's not Jimmer, but he is amazing for a kid whose last competitive game was in HS---two years ago). His back up is WAY better than Jimmer's back up, and a better ball handler than he is.



I think composure is their biggest issue at this point, so I hope they can improve there. The second biggest issue is defense. They really miss Jackson, but I think they have the players who can do it. They just need to step up. Hope they do it soon.

One thing that is hurting the team is some of the team leaders not looking for their shots. Brock Zylstra in BYUs four losses has taken 4, 7, 4 & 3 shots respectively. That's not enough. That's playing afraid and playing not to win. That's asking other guys to step up.

I hope this explains Zylstra's drop off. A lot of folks are wondering what he contributes. He doesn't see stellar at D. winder is better at D but also struggles of late on O. I hope Z figures it out. Or Winder shakes off the Frosh and Rises UP!
