Why must we bash on jake for the press conference. that is so yewtish. He did it to bring attention to BYU. It was for BYU. He wanted to get us out there and persuade recruits to come. It is understandable when my yewt friends make fun of it but it is just annoying when byu fans bash him for it.

Because its a microcosm of why he had issues at BYU.

No, it was for him and him alone. Don't kid yourself. Bronco did not want the press conference. Heaps' marketing department set it up and they spun it as a "good thing for BYU," even inviting Heaps' recruits to participate. Go back and look at the coverage from the press conference, it's about Heaps and what Heaps will do for BYU (including recruiting!); not about BYU. Do you really think that's Bronco's style?



No good thing came from setting such high expectations before he ever played one down of college football. Were we fools to believe the salesman? Yes. But the salesman knew what he was doing.



We bash Heaps for the press conference because in the end it turned out to reflect the type of player he is and the hand holding by his entourage. It's been about Heaps from day one. Why else tell the world you're going to win a NC and why else transfer when you realize you stuck your foot in your mouth?

After pondering for days about why Jake Heaps would leave BYU, and coming up with no rational answers; now that he has announced where he is going, I have an answer.



To leave QBU, after visions of national championships, Heisman hopefuls, and #1 NFL draft picks, danced through his head, and go to Kansas??? Even if Heaps readshirted at BYU next year, and never played a down, even if he battled for the starting QB job at BYU, and lost to Nelson in 2012, he is in an infinitely better position to be great by staying at BYU, than transferring to Kansas. Does Kansas even play football? Sheesh, they've been awful the past few years, and I can only assume the cupboard is pretty bare there.



I don't have a lot of faith in Weiss, but let's assume he has the #1 recruiting class this February (not likely), Heaps will either be playing with a lot of freshmen and sophomores, or playing with juniors and seniors who are not very good football players. If he thought his BYU OL couldn't protect him long enough, just wait until he has to scramble for his life at Kansas.



The answer as to why he is leaving is simple. Heaps must have realized he has some fundamental flaw, and that all he cares about is going someplace with no QBs, and a place he can play. If he thought he was still a world beater, he would go to USC, or Texas, or Arizona, or Arizona State, or Cal--but not Kansas.

I agree. Since he has left the program, we should not talk about him in this forum area any more.



Lets start looking forward, not backwards. It doesn't matter what he did or didn't do at BYU. RN Vs. JH doesn't matter. To the best of our knowledge, his leaving is his decision. Wish him the best and lets be done with it.

It certainly was his decision. There are only two people associated with BYU football right now that could possibly benefit from Jake leaving and I don't even know that they wanted him to leave. The desire for him to stay at BYU patiently working towards getting back on the field was pretty much universal. If anyone thinks Jake was asked to leave - I cannot fathom where such a notion would come from. But he chose to leave and that will be his BYU Legacy.



Hopefully things go well for Jake in the future. He has much to learn - but a Redshirt season is what he needs right now followed by two years back on the field.



I would like to see things work out well for him - just not quite as well as for the guys who stayed.

Allow me to help you out. When people bring up the press conference to make light of it, it is not actually the press conference that is the joke. It is okay to go out on a limb to talk big and pound your chest on national tv. What is not okay is doing the big shot press conference and then folding like a little girl at the first sign of adversity. It is like asking someone to marry you on national tv and then changing your mind after she says yes. If you are going to fold, don't do the press thing. If you do the press thing, don't fold. He would have been fine had he given it the good fight or what they used to call "the old college try," even if he hadn't delivered on a NC, but a big mouth and no heart will always bring on disdain. As it should. No es Macho. I hope that helps.
