What should I do with my autographed BYU Helmet?

OK, so I have a confession to make. I have a replica BYU helmet that I took to the fireside before the Ole Miss game. I had it signed by Bronco, Brandon Doman, Ross Apo, Mckay Jacobsen, Kyle Vanoy, and...you guessed it... Jake Heaps.



What makes matter worse is I saw Riley Nelson in the hall, but I passed him up because who wants to get a back-up's signature on your helmet, right?



Now I am in a quandry as to what to do with the helmet. I have a connection to the team, so I could mail it to my connection and try to get Riley to sign it, but I feel bad for having passed him up in the first place when it would have been easy to get his signature.



Also, what should I do with Heaps signature? In all honesty, I don't have any ill will against him, but I'm also a little annoyed that his signature is on my helmet when he isn't playing at BYU anymore. Should I rubbing alcohol it off (especially before sending it to get Riley's signature)? But what if he hits it big. Then is it worth something to have his signature on a team he transferred from anyway?



Suggestions would be welcome. And please refrain from sending me the facepalm picture. I have already accepted my epic stupidity.

The best thing to do might be to just wait. Let everything play out with Heaps and Nelson. Maybe Nelson takes a nose dive next year and then you regret having his signature, especially for all the effort it took.



Four or five years might sound like a long time to wait, but then you will know what happens to heaps and know clearer whether you want his sig still or not.

My son-in-law has one signed by just Jake Heaps that he received from his father who works in administration at the Y. He asked me what he should do with it. I didn't know what to tell him.

I have a signed one from the Texas fireside earlier this year... Funny thing is, The line was so long to talk to Heaps, instead I got all the Dline and linebackers to sign it. And now I'm glad I made that choice... Never would of guessed what would've happened since then... Crazy.



I'd say just keep it. It's BYU, it has players that signed it. It's awesome.

I'm keeping the helmet no matter what. The question is what to do with the Jake Heaps signature on it. He did start some games, and win a bowl game so I guess I can just keep adding signatures as part of the evolving history of BYU. On second thought, instead of sending it to my contact, I can take it to Atlanta next year and getting Riley's signature and anyone else who can fit their signatures around Bronco's John Hancockesque signature.



I also need to get Kaveinga, Falslev, Lance Reynolds Sr., Hoffman, and Alisa.

Have RN sign it. They both were starters this year. Just have him make the signiture bigger.

I would wash it off or get a real helmet and start over. Of course there is something poetic about having a plastic replica helmet with a signature of a plastic replica QB.

You could save it and one day you might have a talk with your son about what it means to be a real man and conttrast it with maybe a Tim Tebow picture.

Uh, more importantly, is that Patrick Stewart on your table? Now if we could just get Jean-Luc to sign something then we're in business.

I wouldn't do anything with it. Heaps was the starter when you got the helmet signed. I would just tell anyone that asks that. There is nothing wrong with having his sig on your helmet even though he left the team.

Is this one of those things you have to have the force with you to see? I don't understand what I'm looking at.

I hate trying to decide what to do with autographed stuff. I say let it be and let the kids play with it.



My brother gave me a Philadelphia Eagles hat signed by Ty Detmer back when I was a kid. No idea what to do with it.



I won a Bronco Mendenhall signed football at a housing fair raffle Bronco's first year coaching. I had the dilemma of whether to play with it or save it in case Bronco became the next Lavell. After a while. I decided to take it out of the box and noticed that it was an NFL logo football with Michael Vick's insignia on the backside. That was just as he was going through his issues so out it came to be played with.

that is wha happened to my son at hte spring game. the heaps line was forver long. my son waited in line unti he was second to being next and then someone pulled him away.



we did get phillips' signature though! :)

I've got 3 pieces of autographed merchandise. I don't usually collect it because I figure it won't be valuable in my life.

I have a Brazilian team soccer shirt signed by JT (Tavanari) given to me by my son-in-law, a poster with JT, Lee Cummard and Jimmer signed by the team that year which I won at a Cougar Club meeting; and a sheet of paper signed by a lot of the Cleveland Browns in 1968 when I went as a kid to their summer camp (that's the one I need to do something with as it has Lou Groza, Paul Warfield, Gene Hickerson and Leroy Kelly, all Hall of Famers, signatures on it). The soccer shirt hangs in my closet gathering dust, the poster is here in a cabinet at work, the sheet of autographs is in a drawer in my dresser in my bedroom.



I guess I need a man-cave to put this stuff in. ;)
