Doman being looked at by Auburn as a possible

According to footballscoop.com Brandon Doman is being looked at as a possible replacement for Gus Malzahn. Now just how serious this is, isn't known at this point in time. The mere fact that Auburn is even interested in Brandon is very telling. I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Grimes recommended him. We will see what happens.

You know - Robert Anae and / or Norm Chow / even Gary Crowton are looking more attractive by the second. They were loyal and were committed to BYU regardless of the low pay.



I don't have an issue with Doman taking a hike at some point, if he feels it is in his best interest to do so - but taking one right after all that has gone on at BYU in 2011 is very poor timing.



BYU paid the price for Brandon Doman to learn how to be an OC. I think some loyalty would be in order for at least another season or two.



What the Hey - make Reynolds the OC and move on.

Where the crap is this coming from? This isn't saying Doman is seeking new opportunities outside of BYU, it is just saying his name is coming up as a person of interest from Auburn. You make it sound like Doman is actively looking for another job and is ready to run the first time anyone else shows interest in him. You are calling out Doman's integrity for no reason.

My first post was an attempt to be glib. I'm actually glad Doman's name is coming up. Good programs lose good assistants to bigger/better programs. It's a sign of a healthy, innovative and good coaching staff. Turnover is a good thing. I wish more of our coaches' names were mentioned as possible new coaches at other schools.



I've also heard that Coach Cahoon is drawing some interest from NFL clubs.

The UCLA student newspaper also mentioned Doman but I considered it an non issue so I did not share it. It is okay for our guys to show up on dream lists of other schools.

Lawboy can call me a Troll or pot stirrer if he likes - but if any pots were stirred it would be the OP which certainly got me to jump to the conclusion that Doman was showing interest. If it is just Doman showing up on someone's wish list - OP should have made that clear. I guess I took the bait - I hope anyway.



If Auburn was interested and Doman immediately said thanks but no thanks - that is what I would expect at this point. If he took a trip - I am disappointed. Maybe the OP can clear this up for us and maybe Bronco can try to keep his coaches and players busy preparing for the bowl game. If Doman is not expressing interest - then I am still a loyal Doman supporter.



BTW - I have nothing against coaches exploring their options - after they have been here long enough to pay back for the oportunities they have been given. I also treasure, absolutely treasure, guys like Lavell Edwards, Norm Chow, Lance Reynolds, and others who have done a great job while treating this almost like a calling. BYU owes much of its greatness to continuity in the coaching staff augmented by occasional outsiders passing through.

I will agree whole hearted with your last paragraph. I also think that Doman is a huge BYU guy and would love to stay as long as BYU wants him. I don't have any inside information on that, it is only an opinion.



Remember just because someone's name appears on a schools wish list doesn't mean he even knows he is on it and I think this may be the case with Auburn.

Is this serious? How in the world does a team look to doman as a candidate after his performance this year? I think he sucked as oc for the most part, especially during the beginning of the year. of course he deserves more time but i don't think he has done anything that would make me want to take a chance on him at this point.

He took an offense that averaged 68 yards a game rushing in its first four, to one that averaged 215 in its last eight. He took an offense that was averaging 18 first downs a game in its first four to one that averaged 27 in its last eight.



He saw what he was doing on offense and realized it wasn't working. The plays he was calling weren't working. So mid-season he made dramatic, significant and effective changes. Without a bye week, without a fall camp, he improved the offense.

I think that going to Riley Nelson was a big part of it. It is amazing how a called play looks better when it is properly executed.

IMO inserting Riley into the lineup allowed Doman to open up the play book with the versatility he brought as a passer, runner and play maker. Additionally because Riley is very intelligent, and generally remains calm under fire - intense pressure, Doman can run more complicated play sets/schemes. He knows that Riley will move around the pocket in order for a play to develop, someone to get open, or take off like a bat out of hades to gain yardage. This gives him more options.



The biggest bonus for Doman having Riley at QB, is that several times he has made something happen when the play had broken down. Now if Riley can consistently use good judgment on when to take a sack, throw it away, or try a higher percentage pass, we will have something very special on our hands.



I believe that Riley has shown the coaches (Doman, Dupaix and Cahoun) that a mobile, dual threat QB is our future. Lark, Hill, Magnum, Olsen all fit the criteria of what Doman is seeking in a QB.



After seeing how Doman - Riley took apart HI in second half, I expect all stops to be pulled out (throw the play book at Tulsa).

Agreed with everything except your lumping Mangum in with all those other QBs as s dual threat. I'm not saying he isn't or couldn't be, but I don't think Mangum has proven to be a dual threat yet.
