Maybe this is what an earlier comment that got a lot of press about certain BEAST prospects being hard to deal with meant. It probably meant AFA, Navy, Army, and BYU.

BYU has Sunday play, BYU TV, and ESPN.

Navy has the Army / Navy game the same week as Beast Championship Game and TV and Bowl contract complications up the wazoo. Navy wants Beast - may not be able to make it work for 2 or 3 years out.

AFA - decided to stay MWC.

Army decided they could not compete in the BEAST.

BEAST still lookin for that 12th team if I am counting correctly.

8-3+5+1+1 = 12

After Navy - who gets the last slot that neither Army nor Air Force wanted? They missed out on what could have been the Crown Jewel - BYU.

Personally, I think 12 is the wrong number. Eleven teams and playing everyone would be nice. But Navy does not want to give up AFA, Army, and ND OOC which would not work if they play 10 conf games. But if they go 12 - they should go 18 with two divisions and 8 Division games and no crossovers and a CCG. Plus it buffers them for when ACC and / or Big 10 or Big 12 come calling again.

SEC has 14. WIll they stop there? Once the Plus 1 thing happens - the last stumbling block for Superconferences is gone. SEC will raid ACC and / or Big 12 and tie up several great Bowls. It is coming. You heard it here.

Big 10 - will make their annual play for ND hoping ND is then nervous about BEAST for other sports dying and FB getting left out of future. Either way - they raid the heck out of the BEAST. Leftovers not grabbed by ACC merge with MWC / C-USA / WAC Big Country thing that will already have killed the WAC as we know it.

PAC reacts and comes after BIg 12 schools. And it is done.

SEC, BIg 10, PAC, little brother ACC, much littler brother Big Country, and maybe an independent or two. Maybe ACC fades to Big Country and Big Country becomes a play-in to Plus 1.

That would work - except what do you do - relative to Plus 1 - with ND and BYU if they do not join a conference?

Where will BYU be? Hopefully wherever ND is or in PAC. Big 12 remnants end up filling out ACC and BIg Country.

wait so does Navy have demands or not? Title says no demands, details sound like extensive demands. What'd I miss?

Based on the article, it sounds like little has changed for Navy - they want and intend to join the BE, but they're tied up by various contracts until 2014 at the earliest.

Temple has been floated as a possibility for the 12th team. BSU president Bob Kustra also said something to the extent that the Big East would keep a line open for BYU if it changes its mind in the next little while.

Exactly. BYU is not the only school with complications. Navy says no demands - then implicitly makes several.

Go all sports. Keep basketball schools in Big East. Add western basketball schools from Big West and WCC, etc. So BEAST EAST and BEAST WEST have parallel structures. Maybe Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Pepperdine, Utah State, LB State, UC Irvine, UCSD, San Diego, type programs BB only.
