Attitude of team going into AFB bs Tulsa

It appears that getting 10 wins is significant for the seniors and beating a team with a winning record (besides USU) would add some legitimacy to the team's progress and mark 1st year of Indy a success. Who has insider information about how serious the team is taking the bowl game, any surprises in terms of what Doman will do with O now that he has both Nelson and Lark for QBs, and has Jake's departure created any disunity within the ranks. If not, it appears the team will go into the game with a statement to make and desire to finish in top 25.

Idk - but there are a few seniors playing for the last time. They should be motivated. I hope Riley is motivated to build a big enough lead to get PT for James Lark. The defense has been on fire the last 4 games. Special Teams? I hope they get some extra work. Coaches - I hope they do not totally put Christmas ahead of football. In that way - early bowl would be better. But if they use all of the practice days allowed, helps roll into 2012 and I guarantee you Lark is getting serious reps in practice now.

With the bowl being post-Christmas, we should be able to get in all our practices.

And maybe even take one of the practices off? jk

I can only imagine that the team is greatly relieved to have this nightmare over. I believe they come out focused and ready to build for next year, free from a bad mojo.

I have to believe also that Riley will continue to emerge to the Back and CJenson level of leadership that Bronco's style really relies on. Riley will not let this team let down. Nor Tree on the D side. My thoughts.

I can tell you Bronco's attitude--he wants to win.



I have heard from many people that L Vell used to treat bowl games as a fun reward for the team and people associated with it, and many family got to travel to bowl costs. And BYU usually lost those games.



Bronco is much more business like. He takes fewer people coming along for the fun of it. Although they did allow some for the Hawaii game this year. But for the most part, spouses pay to travel. This is a work trip. Not a vacation with some work involved.



So I suspect they go in playing to win, and with a chip on their shoulder. They all have something to prove this year and next, with their #1 recruit QB dumping them.

+1 totally agree.

BYU was 3-2 in the Las Vegas Bowl. That's not "usually [losing] those games." BYU really only didn't perform well in ONE LV Bowl - in 2008.

Think he was talking about Coach Edwards bowl record of 7/21. That's usually losing in my book.

The issue gets muddy because most of Lavell's bowl games were back in the day when going to a bowl meant something and only the finest teams went to bowl games. Now every team that can squeak out six wins goes bowling, so you're much more likely to be matched up against a cupcake.

Bowl games back then actually didn't mean anything at all since they were a non-conference spectacle; they were hardly the reward for a great season and more like an opportunity to play somewhere exotic. Lavell is actually on record talking about how he didn't care at all about Bowl games (see also MLB and NBA all-star games). His record seems to reflect that.

Year end rankings have drastically influenced bowl games and coaches desire to win. Along with bowl bonuses for coaches, win total bonuses, and TV exposure for most bowls improving. Remember those old broadcasts from regional producers? They were bad. Not just an exhibition/reward anymore. Gotta play to win.
