Potential new recruits for 2012 - some schollies available

We have had Zach Lindsey, Kolton Donovan, Bobby Wofford decommit for 2012. Drew Phillips, Heaps and Keoshian left the program. Who is getting their schollies, and what new recruits are we trying to get to replace them. I understand that Falslev got one schollie any others on the horizon (i.e. Famika Anae is still interested in BYU).

Clarification - BYU is still in the picture for Brandon Fanaika, and he is still considering the Cougar program.

I'm guessing that Falslev got Heaps' scholie.

I believe that the two other players the Y is trying to land to fill in schollies are Jalen Richard (RB) and Junior Salt (OG-NT). Ofenguae and Ah Ching don't appear as interested in coming on board.

Now THAT would be ironic.

I thought Wofford decommitted earlier and that freed up Falsalev's $$$. I would think heaps scholarship is still up for grabs.

Fanaika ain't coming to BYU. I will be shocked if he does. Would be awesome if he did though because in my opinion this is the most important position that we need to improve upon.



wasn't graham rowley a top oline recruit? any chance he switches?

Brandon Fanaika (probably Stanford)

Vince Biegel (verbal to Wisconsin)

Jared Afalava (probably Utah)

Chase Hansen (verbal to Utah. yeah, BYU is still going for him).

Junior Salt



They do not expect to get them all, but are still recruiting them. And while BYU can not pursue xavier Sua Filo, if he shows an interest, he gets a schollie.

I doubt we get any of those recruits honestly. chase is sold on utah. afalava is not at all a good fit for byu and won't be coming. my guess is he goes outside of utah. biegel is not coming to byu right now over wisconsin. fanaika and salt maybe. i don't know anything about salt and i still doubt that fanaika comes to byu.



would be awesome to even land two of these late signee types.

Either way, we got a keeper in Falslev. Good on the coaches for making this happen!

This. Bronco said exactly that when he told the story of giving the schollie. Some senior is graduating in January which freed up as schollie now. This was all announced before Jake Heaps, who is not a senior and did not graduate - QUIT.

If we really have this many schollies and just end up giving them to guys on the waiting list instead of landing 4 star or higher recruits - that is quite telling about the supercharged recruiting prowess that the new coaching staff was suppposed to bring and also whether U PAC is affecting BYU's recruiting results.



I sure hope BYU pulls a few rabbits out of the proverbial hat over the next two months.

I am not sold on our running back and full back situation. It isnot horrible. But I am not sure it is as good as what we had this year - considering experience factor, which by now all BYU fans should realize, is important. JJ and Kariya took thier criticism from fans over the years and everyone seemed to think they were keeping an over hyped JUICE (OJ Simpson expectations - I suppose) off the field. Juice is OK but has been less impressive than Jake Heaps on the field. Yeah we had a new guy show a little spurt at the end of the season. But after the intial flash - he looked less spectacular. Foote has some foot speed, but does not see the field much. So Juice, Falslev, Alisa, Foote, and unproven guys like Hine, and Pritchard may or may not be ready to deliver vs that 2012 schedule.

So - where is Bobby Wofford going? Did he get offered by his "dream" school?

Drew's brother on cougarboard has made it pretty clear that he will never come back to byu unless there was a coaching change. I could see him at kansas if heaps ends up there. tennessee is interested in him.

BYU doesn't give scholorships that it uses on new recruits to walk ons. they give walk on's scholorships that are vacated when someone transfers. That is why it took falslev so long to get a scholorship, one never freed up until recently from a player that transfered (or like was said, graduated early).

BC offered him. They were his #1 school. HE is a Catholic kid and wanted to play there.



As to Drew Philips, he made his own bed. Sad he had to go, but the issues was not with the coaches, it was with himself. Still a great kid, just not a great fit with BYU is all. Also sad to see that his roommate Cori Gaines left as well. Gaines gave it a semester on his own dime, but BYU is not for him either. BYU can be a tough place for non-LDS kids.



All I know is that we need to continue to improve our speed and athleticism. Across the board. We have some great athletes here and there, but if we want to be the best, this area needs to continue to get better. Our 3-4 NFL players simply can;t beat teams with 10 or more NFL talents on the field. Not on a consistent basis, anyway.
