Noah

All I can say is wow. Where has this guy been for 3 years? He posts up and has some pretty moves down low. He has hops, rebounds like an animal, actually gets up for swats, goes up for dunks (yikes), and has generally discovered life exists inside the 3 point line.



I have no idea if this is due to Pope or what, but man I am loving this team. I can't remember us ever scoring so often from the post in one game. Post scoring = championships.

I think it's probably a combination of Rose going a different direction this year sans Jimmer (it's not a one man show anymore), Coach Pope knowing how to teach bigs, and Hartsock being comfortable in his role as a leader. Although I think Noah led the team in swats last year and was probabaly pretty high on the rebounds list as well. No one noticed because we were all waiting for Jimmer to drop 3 on the D from 35 out.

He's a lot more explosive. Been waiting for him to get mean down low.



I think Pope has had a big influence (spin move & other post up moves are new) and playing san Jimmer. Noah was often frustrated last season. He's a team guy and you can tell he loves it when everyone is contributing.



On a slightly related topic I like Austin as center with either Davies or Noah at the 4.

As do I, it makes us extremely lengthy! And alters shots like crazy, just like how the Utes were able to use Foster a couple of years back he's just so massive that you can't shoot anywhere near his length.

Did you notice how we would have one guy, say Nate Austin just playing D on the guy with the ball as he was slowly dribbling backwards ready to take his shot and when they would turn around and take it they would have to first alter their shot for Austin and then Hartstock or Davies was there playing a little bit of Ben Stiller in Dodge ball Peek-a-boo to get the swat. Just haven't seen this moved used with BYU and I think it was awesome!

A Pope adjustment?

Our most glaring weakness on defense (and we've had some pretty stellar defenses the last 2 years) has been a lack of shot blocking ability. But yeah, Hartsock is actually getting in the air to get his swats and Austin has been an inspiration to the bigs it seems as he is getting up there as well. Psychologically it is big deal to be sending shots away in the paint. If we continue to play big like this we've got a chance in March. My biggest concern is that Harrision does not yet have a role on this team. A playa like that needs to find a niche soon if we want to take advantage of Noah's last year here.

Harrison is a freshman. Give him some time to find his role. I think he's looked pretty good so far.

But that's exactly my point. I can see some skills there but he is not yet a contributor. If we want to take advantage of Noah's last year here he needs to find a spot asap. Hopefully Carlino will be a big boost as well.

Noah is playing like an all american right now. Plays smart, knocks down shots, and displays amazing defensive decision making.

I just can't wait to see BD start to match this play. When he does, BYU really takes off. BD is our best talent on the team, but not the best player this year...

kinda like Heaps was the best talent on the fball team. Talent is nothing if it's not producing.

Noah is going to be missed next year. He's been amazing this year.

We might struggle mightily as a team next year trying to replace Abouo, Noah, and Harrison if Harrison goes on a mission. The following year we add Emery and maybe Parker so that year could be golden
