O Changes Going Forward

QB Coach - I believe in order for Doman to be effective, he needs to select a QB coach that can mentor his O leaders and provide them special attention. Is Detmer going to be called upon, other names in the hat?



OL - the OL needs revamping as we seemed underwhelming at times. We have guys that average 6-4/320 yet don't dominate line of scrimmage in run blocking and get beat by fast, athletic DEs. Would like to see an SEC type line with big, mobile guys with nasty attitudes. Don't know if this is issue with OLC Weber or he type of recruit we get but Yewts are a nearby example of the difference in our lines.



RB/FB - Need power runner with complimentary burner - both who can catch the ball on swing pass. McKenzie/Jenkins/Staley/Brown/Unga combo with soft hands. Need versatile power blocker/runner/pass catching FB (Tahi, Vakapuna, Tonga) type.



QB - versatile, elusive, mobile passer, threat to run QB that can bide time in pocket and take off when necessary and pick up yards (like Dalton, Ponder, RG3, Dennard Robinson, Geno Smith). I believe we have the mold in RN, with Taysom Hill, Ammon Olsen, Jackson Brown, Tanner Magnum, etc.)

Which position coach do you recommend letting go to make room for a QB coach, and which position should Doman take over in addition to his OC responsibilities?



I think Doman's body of work speaks to his ability, so I'm not ready to throw in the towel just because Heaps didn't pan out in the first two years and decided to transfer.

I think Doman's job just got a lot easier, relative to the more difficult matters of managing personalities, disunity, etc. We will hopefully see how well he is able to prepare Lark.

Whether Doman deserves credit for Riley's progression this year over next, is difficult to know. BUt he ought to get some. Riley seems to have done a lot with his heart and will as well as improving his throwing.

The Oline is a tough one. I would like to think Weber is not just a great guy. But it sure seems the Oline underperformed for parts of the season.I have been hard on them. I do know they have to work their guts out overall.

Maybe this group of relatively young coaches just need to continue their improvement trajectory--if we could assume that at least they will synergistically get better with more time together.

Doman with a year of experience should be in much better shape to handle future duties. I would say give it a year and reevaluate the need.

I'm sure every coach in the country would love to have these players you are describing. I'm pretty confident that they are trying to get these types of players. It is easier said than done.
