He does not have enough attempts to be in the national rankings otherwise he would be #7 between Luck and Barkley.

He gained those stats against two decent WAC teams (USU and Hawaii), a soon-to-be-Big-XII team with a hallmark for defense, a pretty blah SJSU team, a pretty blah Pac-12 team, and Idaho State. I don't mean that as a put-down - I think that would be pretty comparable to a random 6-game selection from most BYU QBs.



Some other thoughts -



- His PER against Oregon State was 148.72. To compare, Osweiler had a 125.06, Foles had a 137.89, John Hays had a 127.20. Andrew Luck barely beat him (149.31)! Also, Nick Montana with a 105.89! There's a joke to be made with that last one, but I won't.



- He was also within 6 points of Luck's PER against SJSU if I'm not mistaken.



- He had the 3rd best performance against Hawaii's defense (behind Washington and Nevada).



- His 204 PER against Utah State was 2nd best, behind Auburn.

If he gets 20 pass attempts against Tulsa, he will qualify for the year end rankings. You need at least 14 attempts for each game the team plays, so 13x14=182, and he is sitting at 162 right now.

Other than that research them better than you did last time they beat us and take what they give you.

Interesting point. At first I'm tempted to think that we won't be surprised because:

1. This game isn't the third game of the season so the team will have a whole season of film to watch (mind the wheel routes).

2. Add to that the fact they've changed coaches since the last time the two teams played.



But then again:

1. Tulsa has a senior QB, a 3-year starter with a career PER of 145-ish.

2. The current HC was WR coach last time around.

3. They'll have a month of practice time to add plenty of wheel-route-ish wrinkles.



I realize this isn't exactly on point with the rest of the thread, sorry if it offends you, Jake Heaps made me do it.

Question: How many passes is RN averaging in the games he plays? Basically, is it likely he will have 20 passes against Tulsa?

Averaging 26.8 passes per game in the games he starts excluding the Idaho game where he left early with the injury. The only game in which he threw less than 20 attempts was the 17 attempt game vs. ISU, where he only got one series in the second half before scrub time.



Barring injury, I think it's a near lock that he gets 20 attempts in the bowl.

I think Bronco is ready for Tulsa. They are honestly not an elite team. They are good. decent QB, decent defense, decent athletes. But not much better than UCF. They got throttled by all good teams they played this year. I think we handle them without too much trouble, similar to Oregon State. Unless we turn it over, that is.

My final three came down to BYU, Baylor, and TU. BYU because, well, it's BYU and highest ranked, Baylor because they offered a 27 month program, and TU because they offered the most oil and gas courses outside schools in Louisiana and get mad money/opportunities through Chesapeake. BYU cut the oil and gas, and the 27 months was too tempting, so Baylor it was.
