Thanks to all who posted in the Jake Heaps' Greatest Moments thread. We read them on the pod cast to relive some of the best Cougar football moments of the past two seasons.

Did you refer to him as a quitter?

We tried to end our podcast on some positive and fun memories. We didn't want to turn into a bash Heaps podcast, and I think we were successful. We talked about the good and the bad we got from him. It was likely the last time we referred to him on the podcast. We wished him well.



You also try to return to being an actual productive member of our little community of BYU fans, instead of this brow-beating over anyone who you think is actively trying smite and slight Jake Heaps at every turn.



I tried to THANK people for sharing some of their BEST memories of Jake. Unforturnately, we couldn't share any of your best memories of Jake, because didn't share any.

There is objective data (which Spiff you have been a model citizen in using), speculation and conjecture, then there are just flat out creative confabulations--otherwise known as lies, additions and revisions to history to fit whatever people want to say or how they want to emotionally overreact.

In other words the more objective, data-driven posters at some level don't have to resort to aspersions such as "quitters".

My feeling is that I had to spend so much time in exaggerated rants against more than just opinions, but Forum tolerated aspersions of a player that were not necessary and certainly not tolerated for other players in past.

AS those dispersions dissipated last night, I have "actual[ly ALREADY returned to being a] productive member of [this] little community..." by posting on other topics in more productive fashions.

So, yes, I am glad to have the dust settle and have folks stick to reality and not the process of vilification and scapegoating that was happening.

AS for your own exaggeration--I was not "brow-beating over anyone (I think you mean everyone) who was actively trying to smite or slight Jake"--just the smiters and certainly not all of them. Mods may not have the luxury of taking on all aspersions--partly because the mods mostly agree with the data and the aspersions. And I certainly was not the only one weighing in on the bashing. There are posters and likely readers who wanted to step away from this forum bc of the Jake bashing. Is that the result you want? Ungoy didn't want to have to get down and dirty with the bashers--good for him. I respect that. I was sick of it. And as a "community member" wasn't going to stand by and let that crap fly without some pushback.

There is so much more to this situation that people don't know and are judging Jake unfairly. MOre details will leak out with time, that i don't necessarily hope to vindicate him, but certainly shed light on the transfer.

The thread and podcast on positives seems to have helped. Good for you guys.

The only details that will leak out will be from the Heaps camp. BYU won't be saying anything more on the transfer.



My analysis was in no-way revisionist. I have always clearly defined my expectations that Jake failed to me. Whether is/isn't a quitter is a subjective interpration of the meaning of the word.



To discount you're own brow-beating as to not actually being that is no different than you disagreeing my opinion of him quitting.



These are the facts: Jake decided to leave. No one made him make that decision. He chose to leave of his own free will.



He now has to face the consequences of that decision. One of which is the negative attention he has received.



I can gaurantee you this. I will not post about Mr. Heaps after this week. He is no longer a BYU Cougar and I have much more desire to worry about current Cougars than players who will no longer help my team win.

Yep, already did. He was Bowl MVP, that was pretty cool. He started as a freshman under very difficult circumstances and a fractured team. Showed up to fall camp and beat every qb out in practice based on stats and green shirt. showed up and didn't quit notwithstanding huge political pressure and rejection (much of it warranted) by many of his teammates.



Everybody pretty much covered the other specific stuff I would say. The duck under pass to Falslev, pump and go to apo at Olemiss, etc, etc. I think the purpose of the thread was to look at and consider and remember the good stuff not merely harbor all the negative scapegoating--never had a problem with that.

There wasn't much negative scapegoating in that thread. Here's what I've noticed about you the last three days - if you'll permit me.



You are going out of your way to take offense at the vast majority of posts that had discussed Jake's transfer just so you can go out of your way to make a heated and passionaite defense of percieved wrongs.



You have enjoyed playing the martyr card in Jake's behalf. And I think that does Jake a disservice.



The only people who wanted Jake to transfer were those like you. Nearly everyone who was supporting Riley could see the talent in Jake and wanted him to stay at BYU and maximize that talent.



The facts are Jake didn't play well. The vast majority of us felt he threw in the towel/quit/decided to transfer (pick your verb) way too prematurely.

Please find one post that said i wanted him to transfer! Revisionist manipulations, again.



What I took offense at I have already stated ad nauseum. The "quitter" term was used too often and too maliciously and tolerated by this forum.

I haven't played the martyr card for jake. I have pushed back on the haters. Maybe two sides of the coin. I have been pretty steady about his shortcomings and faults. But i despise the revisionists who want to misquote press conferences and horribilize the details when the details are unknown. Were Riley lovers thrilled by my accusations and dispersions of Riley? Nope. Did they push back? Yep. Were they martyr-izing Riley? Who knows. doesn't matter.

Did I want Jake to stay? Sure. Did I think it would be good for him, yep.

But haters calling jake a quitter is just as sophomor-onic as the reasons they suppose and or allege that Jake is using to justify his transfer.
