Not Jake's fault, not Riley's fault, not Bronco/Doman's

I think it's too early, and inappropriate to assign blame to anyone in this whole Jake Heaps transferring issue.



Or maybe it would be better to say there's too much blame to assign to every person on the list, and everyone has a different amount assigned to each person.



But most of all, CougarCorner friends and family, we must not turn on each other. Remember we can have differences of opinions without calling each other names, or disrespecting others on the board.



Lets all vow to remain civil to one another.

Question - am I still allowed to entertain the mental image of Riley sitting in his underground lair, laughing maniacally as he puffs on a cigar and reads of Jake's transfer?

Good post. I was going to come here and post basically the same thing. It appears others here didn't get it, though.

I heard from a players parent that it is that Jakes mom who has been the main proponent of him transferring. She wanted to have him leave after the Utah State game.

And with the way Heaps and his family were treated, especially by the Nelson family, can you blame them? It really became toxic and I think it's best for all parties, provided that Glass Jaw Nelson can make it through next year.

I know what you are saying about spreading the blame around because everyone played a role in this. And I don't believe I have fought with anyone over this issue.



But at the end of the day this decision was one person's to make and that is Jake.



I am really disappointed because I still think he could have been successful at BYU, and I really doubt he is successful anywhere else.



And I have no real sympathy for any treatment he has received. Lark and Munns were both 4-Star recruits and Lark rarely sees time, even in blow outs, and I don't think Munns has seen a snap. And those two guys were basically guaranteed to sit behind Nelson and Heaps. Jake had more than a fair shot to earn the starting job and ultimately didn't. The other guys were basically ruled out from the get go and they are still at BYU.



I wish Jake well, but I have no empathy.

With no disrespect to Jake's mom, if this is true, it would explain volumes about the voices in this kid's head; and what looked like his mental deterioration this season. NO Empathy would suggest either that you are incapable of caring or too "uninformed" to understand.

Also if this is true, just look at the difference in Jakes Mother and O'neal Chambers mother. I would also make the statement that Chambers has had to overcome much more then Heaps and has chosen to stay at BYU with NO guarantee that he will ever play another snap of football.

Quite frankly, Jake has a lot more to lose relative to football than O'Neal. Both will have to overcome their weaknesses and character flaws. BUt your insistence that Jake is a quitter is myopic. Great, great for Oneal and his mom, no disrespect to them. She chose the most important in life. But Jake still has an outside shot at playing beyond college.

I'm disappointed, but obviously not surprised. I honestly think that this is a case of too much "stuff" built up over time to really get a clean slate here for Jake and the coaches. I believe even up until the Hawaii game, the coaches believed that Heaps was coming back or else they would have a-not brought him to the island or b-played Lark in mop up duty. If that's the case, shame on Jake for not being more forthcoming with his intentions.



It's ok. I have concerns about the program that I have brought up multiple times. I really think that the inability to improve obviously talented recruits is going to be a problem going forward with BYU, especially if they get less of them then they had before. I trust that an answer to this problem as well as other issues with the program will be figured out.



I don't think it's quitting when you realize that maybe you're just not in the right situation.

I didn't say anything bad about Jake's Mom, I was showing a compare/contrast to different mothering styles. One coddles and protects, the other encourages her son to live up to his commitments even if it is hard to do so. It is up to the reader to decide which he/she thinks is the better philosopy.

Hoff had to redshirt, Apo has had to come back from injury. All still here and playing well. Heaps is the only one that decided to take his wares elsewhere when things got hard.

And Hoffman was like a 2 star recruit coming from a small unknown school.

There is a difference between starting and playing well. We saw the difference this year from guy who has overcome more adversity to start then Jake did....and we saw the results.
