byucougar1I believe that with our team now solidified under Riley's leadership and with no more Heaps distraction, we should be fired up to make a statement for the final game and gain momentum for next year. It is now assuredly Riley's team, no controversy, and will be interesting to see how he leads the team going forward.
If Riley is able to return to full health and be able to scramble, I like the balance between our rushing game (JJ and Alisa, et. al.) and our much improved passing attack (Hoffman, Apo, Falslev and Matthews).
Our pass defense will have to be up for Tulsa's prolific passing game. G.J. Kinne passed for 25 TDs and just under 3,000 total yards) and his receivers Willie Carter and Bryan Burnham both had over 700 receiving yards.
We appeared to improve each game and were solid, ranking 28th in the country, giving up just under 200 yards a game. However, we sitll have the tendency to give up the big pass play. This can potentially be a momentum changer if we don't recover. Seems like we definitely dialed in on defense after halftime vs HI and avoided another big gainer the rest of the game. Hopefully we have time to prepare and become well acquainted with Tulsa's tendencies.
Our rushing defense will also have to be on their toes as Tulsa had two RBs rush for over 800 yards - Ja'Terian Douglas (8 yds/carry) and he had over 100 carries; while Trey Watts had 147 carries and averaged 5.9 yds/carry.
If we can shut down their run game, make them one dimensional, I believe we can do the same thing to Tulsa that we did to HI.
