BYU has something special going on lately - I can't think of many other programs where the local media OPENLY RECOMMENDS that our greatest assets leave town.



One other thing - he makes the point that BYU stands to make 600k at the AF Bowl, while Utah will make 2 mil. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't have to divvy that up among our conference, while Utah does, correct?

So when exactly did all this Jake is transferring talk begin? Furthermore who started it all?

First of all I am not some conspiracy buff, so I dont think all these people got together to try convince Jake to transfer. I do think that Vai Sikahema played a big part in all this. Do all of you remember his two columns from a few weeks ago? He was saying things like its over for Jake and he has lost the support of the team,among other things.





In fact Vai is probably enjoying seeing all of this. He is holding this grudge against Bronco and is probably getting a great laugh out of all this at Bronco's expense.

It started shortly after the USU game. In fact it may have even been on the post-game show on 1320 when Scotty Gerrard said Jake was done at BYU and should transfer.



It's since been picked up by others in the SLC media (David Locke, Gordon Monson, Via Sikahema, etc).

As to the second point, yes, Utah will have to divide up their share of the bowl money. But they will also receive shares from other PAC12 bowl games.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe UCLA applied for, and was granted a waiver to play in a bowl after they loose to Oregon. Since they are the almighty Pac 12 South Champions, they would be ahead of Utah with regards to what bowl they could play in. Wouldn't that "drum role please" put Utah in the Vegas Bowl? :lol:

Talk about a venomous article. Reporters don't usually succeed in getting me wound up - this one did. It comes across as an attack on BYU. Maybe these reporters are all ticked off like some fans because they don't have a Heisman candidate and BCS Conference or undefeated BCS Buster to write about.



But based on how this year ended - The Ute and PAC envy card is a weak one to play.



Instead of telling Bronco to transfer so he can play in a better schedule and bowl, I would rather see them telling him to figure out how to beat the teams on his schedule.

Yeah, this is a weird angle to get used to. When the Utes got the call-up to the Pac-12, it was pretty easy to predict that some of their fans would play the snobby blue-blood card. It's just strange how that sentiment has manifested itself in sports media. It's as if we're supposed to be ashamed of BYU's current situation.



I'm uncomfortable about BYU's future, but writing an editorial that could basically be condensed into "Abandon Ship!" seems a little over-the-top.

This is all just sensational journalism. Not much is going on at this point in BYU's season. There are no conference titles on the line, our bowl game was decided ages ago, and the team has been traveling during the last 24 hours. There just isn't much to write about, as for as these jokers are concerned. (Though we did just get a new promising recruit for 2013 and the Hawai'i game has some interesting angles.) So they can either write an article with a stating-the-obvious title like "Cougars Not Taking the Warriors Lightly" or "Bronco Expects Close Hard Fought Game on Saturday" or they can take some slightly outlandish position that they know will get folks riled up and get a lot of Internet hits. They don't want to write something so ridiculous that they are dismissed entirely, but if they can write something that is slightly outragious that they can pass off as being sincere, then they figure they can boost readership and create some publicity. I doubt these jokers believe half of what they write. It is just to cause a bit of a row and ultimately make more advertising dollars. They are just manipulating us.

Here we go again. Hey I want to write one too so i can get noticed! This guy is a tool for writing this drivel. How about some facts, or heck I would just settle for some truth. It's quotes like the following that confuse and enflame fans against BYU: "But thanks to TV considerations, BYU has now missed chances to play in the Big 12 and Big East conferences." It was just three days ago that Holme clearly stated that there was no invite to the B12 and talks never even got near TV rights. Brad you are a tool and need to write a nice retraction to your article.

And as for the schedule, do you think we have SJSU, ISU, ID, and NMST scheduled for the rest of the decade? How many times and in what language do you need it said that this is year one and that it was difficult to put together an indy schedule for the first couple of years but that they expect much better scheduling as time goes by? I guess if they thought of independence they should have already had Alabam, Fla, Ohio State, Ore., LSU, and USC scheduled for home games this past season.

Brad, get off the high horse and write something meaningful and newworthy. This article deceptive, speculative at best, and untruthful at worst. Journalism just isn't what it used to be. Now it is all about how many hits you get to show how "good" you are regardless of writing anything truthful.

I guess the thousand monkeys thing is no longer just a theorem! Now those monkeys are on the internet and they call themselves journalists.

Lazy too. We actually do not know who we will be playing in our bowl game and the 4 potential candidates are all pretty good and very interesting. It would actually be interesting if one of these lazy reporters wanted to work hard enough to figure out the criterial for that decision and talk about potential match-ups. But that would take work.



Or a little research on the two aspects of Riley's injury and liklihood of reinjury or the special shirt he will wear and how that might affect his mobility or which UH QB will start and how the teams amtch up and whether emotion can truly lift UH leaky boats high enough to blow us out again or whether BYU should pass to set up the run or try to run when UH trys to take away the run.

or make a specific prediction and hold themselves accountable to their wisdom and accuracy.

It is a sad state of affairs. But this seems to be the path we are headed down with the proliferation of reporting based around and driven by digital online media--sensationalism over substance.



If you'll notice, this article is very Gordon Monsonesque. Now we all may dislike Monson and and his writing, but we all know who he is, his style of journalism and who he writes for. The substance of his writing is not so important but rather his ability to get under people's skin. His articles are always followed by so many comments and heated debates between Cougar Ewet fans that I am sure he gets plenty of acolades from his superiors. The best thing would just be to ignore these articles. But there will always be suckers out there, like me, who will react and write about what is being put out there and so this sort of writing is perpetuated.

So I took the bait and read the article. Wow! What a jerk! I have sworn to never read a Gordon Monson article again - and I'm comfortable with that. I don't go into bars. I don't look at porn. I don't read Monson. Standards. I'm getting close to tossing Brad Rock into that group. But he's still miles from Monson. He's sorta like Franchuk, for whom I have had no respect since he encouraged a Puke victory against Alabama a few years back. But at least Rock knows he's puke red throughout. Franchuk tries to put on a blue shell to cover his red insides.
