It Is Raining In Paradise

again tonight.

Team is practicing tomorrow afternoon at a local high school and women's basketball is playing in a tournament at BYU Hawaii. I am guessing the football team will be practicing at Kahuku High School (Poly Pipeline), who just beat Punahou (Obama's pricey and preppy private high school) for the state title. Nice touch for recruiting.

I am glad the weather is a little dreary - minimizes distractions. Staying at Turtle Bay - iirc - that is as far away from the distractions of Waikiki as you can get on Oahu.

It is right by Sunset Beach and Pipeline - but if it stays rainy - there is nothing there but beaches and the girls in bikinis will stay home.

But it does seem to me that Bronco has been too relaxed in his prep the past two weeks.

Doman recalled in an interview today that in 2001 - the team bus arrived to Aloha Stadium late - and it was 21-0 before he could think straight. Seven turnovers. Two kickoffs returned for tds. A punt returned for a td. And our 12-0 defense could not stop UH so BYU's ensuing 48 or so points were not nearly enough.

JW Marriott Ihilani Ko Olina Resort & Spa. I have stayed there a few times on business. Nice setting. Not quite as isolated as Turtle Bay - but still quite a way away from Waikiki - thank goodness.

Is where the team is staying. So maybe they will practice at Waianae High School where Norm Chow once coached.

Anyone know?

DM - do you know which "local high school" they are practicing at this afternoon?

Still cloudy over here on East Oahu. Have you gotten any golf in yet over that way?

Hey Bib (and anyone else who is in HI for the game). Have you tried the shrimp at one of the little stands along the roadside on the north shore? I have never found shrimp on the mainland that compares. The best stand IMO is in Waialua on a side street just west of hwy 930 south of the hwy 83 jct. If you're coming from the south, the street Ys off to the left just as you are entering town. If you like shrimp, you'll love your stay on Oahu.

Enjoy!

I have tried the ones in Kahuku. Absolutely great. For those that did not know, they are raised locally and come fresh from the pond out back to the roadside stand. Kamehameha Hwy near La'ie and Kahuku.

PS

We have friends with a ranch in Waialua. Beautiful and green out there.
