That is covered elsewhere and awaiting the next rumor or break in the official silence - remember - there has been no official word that BYU is no longer talking to BEAST WEST or BIG 12 or anyone else for that matter. We know Big Country would love to have BYU. But it seems we are Independent at heart and in nature - and we can make that work. I digress.
Imagine that you were Benson over at WAC. I know most of you like him better than Hair at MWC, but Hair has more - Hair - and other things to work with. Movement at the tippy top - seems to have slowed. There is still some movement to happen at the transition to BCS level - BEAST WEST. The bottom knows that once those details pop - the stuff is going to hit the fan. How much stuff? Who knows for sure? But it will be a ton or two of stuff hitting the fan.
MWC - is both giving and receiving however with Utah, BYU, and TCU already gone and BSU, AFA, and possibly SDSU on the way out. Ouch.
C-USA - well SMU, UCF, and SMU have made it clear that they will go the second they can.
Independents - Navy seems ready to jump ship. Army declined BEAST WEST. Too hard.
WAC - Fresno State, Nevada, and Hawaii already gave notice and are headed to the MWC.
MAC and Sunbelt - I don't follow these very closely, but what will all of this bring.
MWC and C-USA are both praying that BEAST WEST stops at 12 and that all other BCS leagues are done. Because any more movement at the top comes right out of their hides after the ripple effect. Stuff runs downhill and they are very near the bottom of the hiill now and may well become the new bottom when the current bottom (WAC, Sunbelt, MAC) becomes extinct or relegated to total irrelevance.
C-USA is going to need at least 3 teams. More if some MWC teams decline BEAST WEST and more C-USA teams (E. Carolina, Memphis, Tulsa, Tulane, etc have been rumored) get grabbed as a result. Let's asume that does not happen for now. They need 3. Louisiana Tech makes sense at the expense of the WAC. Temple at the expense of the MAC comes next assuming BEAST WEST does not grab them. Can they get Army to rejoin. Army left becasue it was too hard. But it is about to get much easier.
MWC is going to need at least 3 or more teams depending on how many teams they decide they want to end up with. This is really going to sting the WAC. FSU, Nevada and Hawaii are already coming from the WAC. That makes 7. USU, and Idaho would seem to be next on tap since Fresno State, Nevada, and Hawaii are already going and LA Tech is likely gone to C-USA. That makes 9. Toss in SJSU and you get to 10. Add NMSU and you get to 11. WAC is then empty except for new scraps they had lined up from Sun Belt, etc. If MWC tries to get to 12 like C-USA and have a CCG followed by a play-off as previously speculated - they go deeper and pick Sunbelt bones, promote a Big Sky team, or hope Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, or UC Irvine want to add a football program. There are actually a couple of decent MAC teams - but that seems so far away as is much of the Sunbelt Conference. Maybe MAC and Sunbelt can do a Big Country like gig and try to make something out of nothing.
The WAC is already dead in football and probably knows it. Sunbelt and MAC are on life support re relevance - maybe ought to drop a division. Maybe C-USA and MWC should go 16 teams and put MAC out of its mysery and let the rest go down a divison.
