BYU General Counsel Is A Piece Of Work (attorney)

I wonder if the person quoted was really referring to an attorney or to the Church itself. Quorum of 12. Board of Trustees. General Council?



I say this because it seems the deal fell apart on business terms - not legalease. BYU would not give up home broadcast rights. That is a business decison. That would not be left to the attorney to make. If the deal fell apart becasue they had an agreement in principle and attorneys just could not get over quibling over the exact wording - that would be the attorney - General Counsel.



What General Counsel (Council) do you think they really called a Piece of Work?

That they needed to paint BYU as the bad one to save their own face or not let on how weak they really are as a conference.

I'm sure the term "general counsel" refers to the lead attorney present at negotiations/discussions. I have no idea who this individual is, but apparently he insists that BYU only accept a deal that is, in fact, an improvement over the current deal.

The decision about whether or not to give up broadcast rights for home games is not a legal decision and would never be left to the head legal counsel to decide. How to word an agreement Sure - but whether to give it up - no way.



I think the quoted person was criticizing the business decision makers that decided BYU would not give it up. The comment about it coming out at the last minute sounds like it came out of the Thursday meeting with the brethren after the Beast thought Holmoe was on board.

It's also possible that the broadcast rights issues were the last issues brought up. Up to that point, BYU and BE may have been agreeing on/or worked out everything up to that point. So the fact that they didn't agree on or couldn't work out that "one" issue may have come as a bit of a surprise/shock to the other side.

I would be willing to keep our tv and let the rest of the conference split the tv contract 11 ways.
