For those of you who are mad at BYU for turning down the BE

I think this article sums it up pretty good. I commented a few days ago that the BE was the MWC with a BCS bid and from what I read in this article, that statement was more true then even I had thought.

A much better backed argument supporting BYU than the previous article bashing BYU. All the previous had were quotes, hearsay and speculation from the jilted party.

BE: "Dear BYU, We know we've held you on the outside looking in for decades, but we now want your broadcast rights so we can renegotiate our TV deals and maybe save our AQ status, and in return we promise to reduce the number of times you'll be seen on ESPN, and we'll hold you captive when our AQ fails in 2013, anyway."



BYU: "No, but thanks for asking."

Big East: BYU, would you like to join our conference?



BYU: We like the schools in your conference. What are you offering?



Big East: Less money, more travel, we only want football, you lose your TV rights, and you can't rebroadcast your games. Oh, and you are stuck in our conference - even if we lose AQ status.



BYU: Um...



UCF: BYU is being unreasonable!

What bothered me the most in the article by CBS Sports was their comment that their wanting to keep their ESPN broadcast rights to their home games didn't come up until almost the end of the negotiation. How can you claim in your article that it was the issue that kept BYU and the Big 12 apart and then claim that it didn't surface with the BE negotiations until the end? Slanted journalism? Sounds like the stuff we see often out of some SLC media.

This is how I see the "last minute" TV problem going down:



Big East: So, that should 'bout wrap things up. Who's making the Starbucks run?



BYU: Uh, what about TV broadcast rights.



Big East: Cough. Uh, say again?



BYU: You know, TV? Currently we have an 8 year deal with ESPN that guarantees at least three home games will be on ESPN and at least one game guaranteed on BYUtv. The home games that ESPN doesn't broadcast get picked up by our national TV channel. We call it BYUtv. We'd like to keep that arrangement going forward.



Big East: Oh, yeah. TV. Well, since you'd be joining our conference you'd have to take whatever TV deal we negotiate with whoever we get to broadcast the games.



BYU: That doesn't sound better than our current situation.



Big East: But, you'd be in an AQ conference...

BYU: You know, maybe we should pick this up tomorrow.



Big East <whispers>: Get me a CBS guy to write an article.

Big East will be dead in two years. It is still an upgrade even without aq status for schools like bsu, sdsu, etc., but not for byu in their current position.

well that depends on their ability to get BYU. I think Big East has over-stated its own viability without us. I don't mean that in a pompous way, but I could easily see Boise St turning the BEast down as well as Air Force and anyone with the foresight to see beyond those three nasty greedy letters.



The funniest thing about "last minute" negotiations is that there is no such thing. All it means is you haven't arrived at a deal and need more time; it's not like BYU or the Big East is going somewhere. Talk!

I heard TH asked the brethren for permission to accept Beast Offer last Thursday. Apparently the BOT set some conditions.



This was not an official BEAST statement. It is one reporter selling web hits by quoting one disgruntled person off the record. An agreement was not reached. They think they made a great offer. They probably think we are nuts for passing it up. We apparently value independence over some other things. Nothing wrong with that either. Time to move on and make it work. Winning nearly every game is the only thing that will make it work. We are not Notre Dame.

well we now have one thing in common with Notre Dame. not only are we independent, but we're also the only two FBS football teams who have turned DOWN not one but multiple BCS conference overtures.

Why does everyone keeps saying that we're not Notre Dame? Did BYU paint their helmets gold or something?
