Riley Nelson to Denver Broncos?

Just thinking in the way of WAY out there possibilities:

If the Tim Tebow experiment continues to get wins for the Broncos, someone is going to take the bigger risk and try to build a team around Tebow, whether it's the Broncos or someone else. The way to do that? Load up on mid-level RBs, reduce the number of receivers (and all your receivers will be gritty possession receivers, no top-tier WR is going to be coming to a Tebow team), and focus your roster moves on building depth in the OL and building a top-five defense. The biggest risk in building that team is this--what do you do when Tebow gets hurt? Who is your backup QB? There aren't any other QBs in the NFL that can run the offense Denver is putting around Tebow (and the Broncos pretty much admitted that by waiving Orton), so if Tebow goes out of for even a week, your entire offensive scheme is trash. Enter Riley Nelson---if an NFL team builds around Tebow, are there any better options out there to be the backup to try and run the Tebow offense? Maybe they try and talk Eric Crouch back into the NFL?

Just thinking out loud is all....

Hahahahahahaha!!!!

I know this is off your topic, but if Tebow can just be a 50-55% passer, Denver has the chance to have a really explosive and unpredictable offense.

He would bring fire, passion, and determination to the team. However, I've said this before, and I'm not sure how reliable this is, but I'm not sure if he's interested in the NFL, or if he just wants to have fun in college at BYU.

So what you're saying, essentially, is the best mobile qb in college sports today is Riley Nelson?

I think nelson would be more likely to make the broncos as a team doctor than a qb.

You must not have seen the Broncos lately. They are running a triple option in the NFL. A triple-option QB is not the same as a "mobile" QB. I believe RN is the best option in the NCAA ranks for doing what Tebow is doing.

Wait, IF the Broncos get Riley AND can get Eric Crouch out on the field, they'll be 3/5 of the way to the 5 QB backfield philosophy! Imagine the options! No one would know what to do against that!

Of course, if they could trade for Cam Newton and Mike Vick and they'd nearly unstoppable!

One thing is clear, as I predicted before the season started, Riley Nelson is a better college QB than Jake Locker.

bwahaha. what a funny. This is like saying Jake would be a better NFL qb than a college QB because he has arm strength (as compelling as that is to think about receivers who can actually catch a fastball and not rely on soft-pitch).

TT goes what 235-245? And is a cpl inches taller?

Riley goes a buck 80. Are you kidding me? This is totally laughable. Riley deserves all the credit we can give him. BUt he does not deserve the  blu-goguery, Riley-homer-hyperbole you are trying to spin him into. An average, college defense in AF blew him up last year. You really think even the worst of NFL defenses wouldn't tear sinew from bone on this guy?

An interesting theory and development for the Broncos. Similarities exist between Broncos and BYU with their qb situations and skills. But mark my words, TT, with all his laudable traits will not take the Broncos to the big time. They may eek out a play-off birth. And he may even get better at executing a Tim Tebow offense, but, his heart will not compensate for the absence of a real-deal NFL offense. Just like RN won't take BYU to the big-time. They sell tickets and win the coliseum crowds with their warrior hearts, but forget about the rest.

It's possible. :)

You forgot to mention that it was while we had lost all confidence last year. We were playing without any heart at all.

Actually, he wouldn't play very well right now. He has the arm, but his accuracy, leadership, and toughness aren't as they should be for him to play in the NFL. If he wants to get in, he's going to have to fix those.

That "average" Air Force defense finished 37th in total defense, 2nd in passing defense, 28th in scoring defense, and 10th PER defense. That seems like pretty good defense to me.

To be fair, Riley was pretty poor in that game, especially the 2nd half.

You still forgot, we had cougar dropsies until after Utah St. Nobody was playing well. If everybody (including him and everybody else) had more confidence and was just plain playing better, we don't lose to Utah St, we have a chance at beating Nevada, FSU and a fairly good shot at beating AFA.
