We all wanted Manti Te'o for a Cougar??? Well... We have Kyle Van Noy. Here are the stats through 11 games.

Kyle Van Noy

Tackles 40 solo/15 assisted

Tackles for loss 10 for 70 yards

Sacks 4/28 yds

Interceptions 3 for 79 yards

Forced Fumbles 2

Fumble Returns 2

Fumble Return for 3 yards(Touchdown)

Kicks/Punts Blocked 1

Manti Te'o

Tackles- 50 solo/53 assisted

Tackles for loss 11.5 for 29 yards

Sacks 4.5/17 yds

Interceptions 0

Forced Fumbles 0

Fumble Return 0

Kicks/Punts Blocked 0

Also noted... Te'o is a Junior while KVN is a Sophmore

Te'o is a solid tackler, but Van Noy is clearly the more athletic type.

I thought we wanted both of them. They both seem on a collision path with the NFL. But we should be good at linebacker for a very long time.

Teo was very unhappy with comments the new coach recently made about the players he inherited. Hopefully recruits value the coaching stability at BYU - wait we ran several out of town last year. I doubt any players are questioning the coaching changes on defense, though and on offense, players are probably getting to the point where they are ok with those changes.

man kavenga, pendleton, KVN, and Teo as our LBs would have been awesome, but Ogletree has been solid/good player so they didnt need Manti.

Ogletree had been more than solid. He's been an anchor.

It probably feels like an anchor when he hits you too.

The benefit of having Te'o would have been last year.

We really could have used him in 2010. early on the LBs greatly underferformed as they had little experience.

I saw some ND games early 2010 and Manti was a beast. He would have played significantly as a freshman in 2009 and would have greatly helped the defense early last year.

Not sure if it would have translated into more wins, but defense would have been better, no doubt.

Ogletree probably has the same stats as Te'o. Ogletree is a tackler.

Tree is great in run support, a liability in pass support at times when forced to the edge in cover. Teo runs much better. Hence, the Sampson package. That has been a revelation for us this year.
