As a fan - I don't quite know what to expect tonight. I really don't. It should be fun. What do you expect?
99% chance of snow according to what I read. So I expect that. WIll Jake Heaps don some special Snow Ball hoisery and winter gloves that throw off his game or bare arm and bare hand it and get muddy and dirty?
We should be able to run or pass at will vs this defense - everyone else has. WIll Doman have Jake air it out and run up some gaudy numbers - or work him into the flow conservatively again and rely heavily on the run to move it. We will get a lot of yards - barring turnovers or poor QB play - but which kine yards as we say here in Hawaii? Which Kine?
Will the cold, sloppy, wet, possibly icy weather maybe with or without cloud cover in the dark of night result in fumbles, picks, bad snaps, penalties - or do we execute cleanly and flirt with 600 yards unless Bronco calls off the dogs early and has Lark run conservative running plays with little or no attempt to make any meaningful throws?
WIll BYU grind out a slow methodical game of long drives to kill the clock and keep that potent NMSU offense off the field and thus reduce our total number of possessions and points? I.E. will we get a bunch of yards but only 30 soemthing points?
Speaking of points, lately, almost every opponent has popped 40+ points on NMSU and usually 45 and once 66 or so. Can we pop 50? Can we pop 60? Can we pop 67?
NMSU scores a lot. Only a couple of teams have held them under 30. They have gone over 40 more than once. But a couple of teams have held them in the teens - more so early in the season than lately. Can we shut them out? Hold them under 10? Keep them in the teens? Hold them to fewer points than any other opponent has?
67-9 would score more than any opponent has against them while holding them to less than any opponent has held them. Can we pull that off? Especially given that we would be on 3rd stringers by then? Munns might even see time if we got up that much and got up early.
WIll Brandon let Jake and James THROW IN THE SNOW? We would need to air it out to accomplish the above.
NMSU is capable of pulling off an upset. They are as good as or better than USU on offense - not so on defense. Can they pull it off? Thier coach knows us well. If they can rattle Jake - we are going down. Can they?
WIll Special Teams give this one away? Or will they win it for us with big returns and blocked kicks?
WIll the defense give up it's, seemingly obligtory, big play TD on a run? On a bomb?
WIll we even need to punt? I hope not.
