Jake's Arm

I am getting some work done and watching the rebroadcast of the BYU Idaho game.



A couple observations:



Jake's arm is a bit streaky, but not horrible. He'll make several good throws, followed by a really bad one.



He has hard time with short passes to short guys (Mendenhall, DiLuigi)



Sometimes his receivers don't help him. Apo and Jacobsen both had passes slip through their hands. The one to Jacobsen was even more frustrating in the replay when you can see it hit his 6. But in his defense, he did have to come back for it ;)



He can throw a frozen rope. That pass to Apo (the last TD, about 5:30 left in the 3rd) was a thing of beauty. Is that Jake's bread-and-butter? It was a straight drop-back with Trips Right. Once the DBs made their breaks, he zipped it right between the 1s on Apo's chest. Probably about 25 yards in the air.



One other note... has Alisa caught a pass out of the backfield? Not sure I've seen that happen. If he's going to be the featured back in 2012 with BK and JJ gone, he's gonna have to do that.

Alisa has been thrown to six times. He has five catches for 55 yards and 1 TD.

Said it all year, he is a 1 for 5 kind of guy. Or Plaisted if you will.

I think a lot of it is because of his footwork. He isn't consistent in his footwork which causes him to be inconsistent on his throws. He doesn't step into his throws enough.

I haven't watched the replay myself yet, but from the stands it seemed like a lot of the passes, especially early on by Jake were all at the shoe laces of the guys. Does that play out on the TV?

Yes - early

I've said it time and time again. He needs to redshirt—and that does not mean transfer. If he does it right, he will develop enough that he doesn't have all of those kinks anymore. :D
