Is when he replaces some of his staff after the season.

BYU has the MWC's best facilities, largest fan base, operates on the largest budget, and typically gets the best recruits. It's about time they employ the league's best coaches.

At a freakin' minimum let's get a special teams coach that puts special back in the equation. I only have BSU to compare to because I do not see lots of other teams, but the comparison is so stark....

And while we are at it: a band director to direct a band to act like a band; a strength/nutrition whatever dude to help with the hamstrings; and a groundskeeper to actually keep the ground from getting too grounded...Am I asking for too much?

Field has new sod. Groundskeeper was too much.

Don't worry, it's just the pride cycle.

I have a hard time picturing him letting anybody go. Maybe I'm wrong, but he seems really big into the loyalty thing.

He is. But there are ways to let go those you are loyal to in a graceful manner. I hope Bronco has what it takes to get it done. It's been needed for a few years now.

He also seems to be one to give people "a shot." We need some established experience not someone that's still cutting their teeth.

No. But money can be produced quickly. When we needed to boost Jaime Hill's pay to keep him here a little longer, Tom Holmoe had NO problem finding cash among the donors to do it.

I've heard that although Lavell had plenty of turnover among his assistants, he never fired any. Any of you know enough about those days to know if that's a fact? Jack?

This quote leads me to believe that you have a particual assistant or assistants in mind that need firing. Can you elaborate? Or would that get you in trouble with your contacts at BYU?

From other posts he has written I think it's fair to say he personally believes that it is time Coach Anae moved on to green pastures. I apologize for speaking for mcgregor, but that's my take on other comments.

You know, I think I'll abstain from this question. I'll say this, however, that I think Coach Hill is worth every penny we pay him, and probably then some. I would wager that no one on the coaching staff holds as much football information in his head than he does. Also, Coach Doman is invaluable to the program in terms of what he brings to the table as a recruiter. That being said, I'd rather see Ty Detmer as the actual QB coach.

Anae probably isn't on the top of my list right now. To be fair to Coach Anae, I think he's made efforts in each offseason to expand his repertoire. We've seen the playbook grow each year. My frustration with Anae is that, in my very humble opinion in regards to a very large man, Coach Anae fails to utilize his arsenal effectively immediately before and during games.

I wouldn't be heartbroken to have Anae replaced, not because I don't think he's good, but because he's run his course. You notice the two years BYU went undefeated in conference were his 2nd and 3rd years - after a year to get the system in place and before teams started keying on his tendencies. Now it seems that conference teams know what to expect from him and as most would agree, he tends to be very predictable on certain situations. Bring in someone new next year, give Heaps a year with the new system, and then 2011 and 2012 could be the years to break through to 12 or 13 wins.

I think Doman could do a respectable job as the offense coordinator. He has been working under Anae for quite some time. I don't think the current system is a bad system and it has worked very well for BYU. I just think it needs a touch of variety and toughness that Doman could bring. Who knows, I remember when people said the same things about Chow, and looked what he did after he left BYU.

Personally, I hate the scheme we run on offense. It is better than the O Crwton trid to run at BYU, but not as good as the Chow/Holmgren, etc O BYU used to run. I'd rather BYU go back to the old school offense that is more West Coast offense in nature, than spread. I think it would work. And since BYU will be breaking in a new QB next year anyway, now is the perfect time to adjust the playbook. I think we need to add more motion with the WR position, and use the WR position way differently. Create angles with motion, drag patterns, post patterns, etc. And with both Pitta and George gone next year, again, a good chance to switch because I do not see BYU running 2 TE sets too often next year. That old offense made Andy Boyce, Ben Cahoon, Bryce Doman, Eric Drage and others look awesome, and the guys we have now are faster and more athletic, yet look worse. Those guys would be useless in the BYU O of 2005-2009. Something to be said about that.

I would love to see Ty coaching at BYU in some capacity (QB coach or whatever, he is a genius). Having said that, I don't see him wanting it yet.

Didn't Heaps' high school adjust their offense to mirror BYU's when Jake committed to the Cougars?

Is this fact or rumor? I have not heard this. I wonder why the coaches would when they have no loyalty to BYU, and their offense won state 2 years running. Why switch for 1 guy and 1 season?
