Why John Beck Can't Make The NFL

Beck is my all time favorite Cougar. In large part because of the Harline play and what it meant at that time to me. Plus I watched him from his days as a Freshman where I thought he was head and shoulders better than Matt Berry and everyone else on that roster.



Anyhow, if you look at successful QB's in the NFL they all have something in common: weapons. Whether it's a sweet running game, stellar wide receivers, an immovable offensive line, or brilliant coaching. During his "opportunity" in Miami, Beck had none of those. During his most recent "opportunity", those are all absent as well. Then I look at a guy like Matt Ryan. Look what he was drafted into. No question, Ryan has done a great job, but the players around him have certainly helped (Pro Bowl TE, RB, and WR). Matt Leinart is going to get the same deal coming up with Arian Foster, Andre Johnson, and an insane OL.



Oh well. Just a little venting on behalf of John. I know he wouldn't.

Maybe he'll be transferred to where he will have a better team around him. :)

Watched the 49er Redskins game. Beck's receivers are horrible and that O-line absolutely sucks.

at least Grossman is equally bad. The difference is Grossman has played in a Superbowl. Beck has yet to win an NFL game.

Grossman piggybacked his Superbowl appearance. Kyle Orton led that team most of the year. Only had a couple losses. That defense was pretty good too.

From what I've read, a lot of fans were expecting Beck to finally get a win against the Dolphins. and a lot of them were willing to write Beck off if he couldn't beat the dolphins.



Kind of a roller coaster when I saw that Miami won (because I thought John Beck was the QB) and then realizing that it was Rex that played that game. HA HA.

His quote implied that when the team gets healthier - Beck will get another shot. I am sure that depends on how Grossman plays - but he didn't win anyone over in that game.

Hope you're right although I don't know what it will change. No Cooley, a broken Moss, and Ryan Helu as your RB doesn't seem like a recipe for success.

As I have said many time, Beck will never make it in the nfl.

How long does Beck have to be on active NFL rosters before he's "made it" in the NFL? Because he's been getting playing time and getting paid since he graduated.

Many players succeed largely because of the system they fall into. Beck has fallen into three bad systems for him.



Kurt Warner was in a great system for him in the Rams and won a Super Bowl. He was awful with the Giants and then landed in a new system in Arizona.



Beck has never had a system that would work for him (be it scheme or personnel). He likely won't get another chance.



Sure he's made it in the NFL much like Detmer did, but certainly not like Young or McMahon.

Do you really want to waste our time with a statement like that. Must I define "made it" in the context of this thread for you? John Beck has done well for himself in terms of being on a roster, but he has never made it on the field and I doubt he ever will. Much of it is situational and spiff noted and much of it is his own limitations.

So he will never be an NFL all-pro, he will never start for an entire season, he'll never make the playoffs as a starter, he'll never win a playoff game, he'll never win a superbowl, he won't make a career out of football, what? It's easy to say "see, he hasn't made it and never will" when it's a loosely defined term like that. So yeah, I'd love to "waste our time" with asking you to define what you mean so that we have a clear line of where Beck has either "made it" or not.

Since I started the thread, I'll define what I meant by "make it". Some level of success on the field. Sure he has done well by staying on a roster and earning a paycheck but he has a solid skill set. Someone said he's limited. I guess, but not really. He's always been held back by the lack of quality personnel. Put him in matt leinart's shoes (now that schaub is out) and see how he does.

Not any. Just Young or McMahon. All the other QBs weren't that great in the NFL.
