Joe Sampson moved to safety

According to TBS, JS has been moved from CB to safety to take advantage of his speed, coverage and hard hitting. To me this sounds like we are solidifying our defensive backfield and putting the best athletes on the playing field. What is our new, revised backfield: Eason, Hadley, Sampson,

Uale?

Delete Uale from that list and put in Sorenson. Uale has consistently been picked on successfully in 2 deep coverage because he is slow to get to where needs to be.

I agree. Sorenson is a better player. He's smarter with coverages (more picks, blocks, etc.), and at least as hard-hitting. Not to mention he's great at pursuing from 20 yards back.

Just saw that. They did not specify as to which safety spot he'd be in. Jray has a hurt back so that is where he'd be going, is that behind Sorenson? It seems like it was Mees and Jray fighting for the back-up behind DS. Does this mean we could see Sorenson moving to a LB again, he hasn't been exactly steller in the secondary but neither has Uale. In these last couple of games, I'd like to see some of our younger guys get a turn to play in a game to help develop them for the future. It's against lesser competition and for guys like Uale and Eason there is no chance to move on to the next level so they should pull a Gaskins and let the younger guy get some PT. I shouldn't say they "should" because no way in hell if I could play would I let someone else play just to be nice.



For at least one of the last games : Hadley, Johnson or Buckner at FC (for Eason), Sampson or Mees (Sorenson to OLB and get some experience, rotate with Frazier), Hague (Uale is gone after this year and if things go as planned Bills will be back next year to help the Safeties) and Hadley and Everett ( Bronco says Everett looks good at BC, I think Hadley should have been the field corner all year, big more able to come up in press coverage and a fairly sure tackler).



We need young guys to get some experience!

What the hell took so long? Honestly, this is where most thought he would play before the season even started. Why the slowness with this move? The kid will be a beast at safety and more impact as we have Hadley at his corner spot with DQ backing him up now. He is fast, good instincts and can lay the wood. He is a safety we rarely see at BYU. About freaking time.

Bronco likes guys to play where they want to unless there is a need. My guess is it took so long because he wanted the player to play were he wanted to play until there was a definate need at safety.

Maybe Sampson was/isnt picking up on the defensive calls that the safties need to make? Bronco has said before that its the safties who make sure everyones in the right position. Hes called the safties the QB of the defense. Maybe Sampson needed some more time to master this. He could be a beast on the field but if hes not able to make the right on field defensive adjustments then hes not ready to take the field.

I am excited to see him on the field when he gets the chance.

This is another one of those late season moves that could have and should have been done earlier.



i.e. Eason getting a majority of reps over Bradley last year



or



KVN getting a majority of the reps over Frazier.



As to Sampson moving to safety, I hope it is to strong safety. Our FS of the next 3 years - Craig Bills - comes off his mission in a few months, and if he is anything close to game speed he will be scary good. Maybe we RS Bills and let Sampson play his last(?) year out at FS next year. Is this scenario possible, does Bills have a RS available?

And Uale is terrible, and not getting any better. When you start counting blown coverages leading to TD's on two hands - instead of one - you know you have a serious problem.



I just hope I don't have to start taking my shoes off to count before the end of the year...

Uale constantly makes bad reads and hops on the wrong routes (leaving others wide open, quite a few of those for TD's). It has to be something else.
