QBs Playing Favorites?

By the numbers, did Heaps play favorites with Apo? Does Nelson favor Hoffman?

It's a good start, but your analysis falls a bit short. Did you forget that Apo sat out 3.5 quarters of a Heaps game with a concussion which drives the percentages lower?

Did Max Hall favor Collie/Pitta--Yea, but what was the down side? As long as it isn't detrimental, then who cares?

Nelson just knows where his bread is buttered.

Apo is not the same guy now that Heaps got him rocked over the middle twice. He will eventually gain confidence that QB won't lay him out - and quit hearing steps and taking his eye off ball.

Now, when favoritism is causing the QB to ditch wide open receivers in favor of his triple defended favorite then I think we need to address the issue, unless of course it's a known fact the wide open receivers drop passes or fumble.

I wouldn't refer to it as playing favorites, I would refer to it as having a higher level of confidence in a certain receiver. Riley and Cody were roomies last year and according to many they spent the whole summer throwing the ol' pig bladder around. I don't think they intentionally play favorites, they just go where they're comfortable and if a QB hasn't worked as much with certain receiver then you will see less balls go his way due to lack of familiarity.

Or he does a better job of getting open.

Nelson may be throwing to Hoffman more than Heaps. But he's also throwing to a lot of guys that Heaps wasn't throwing to. Or maybe it's just that receivers aren't dropping Nelson's passes.



We didn't have a TE score a TD in any game that Heaps started in. I can think of 2 TDs by TEs via Nelson.

Hoffman's RER last season was 121.71. This year it's 178.46. The last 5 games last year it was 207.86.



I hope every BYU QB has Hoffman as a favorite target.

Or when thier favorite receiver is out w/ injury, and they don't know who to throw to.





BTW, what is RER, and how is it calculated?

RER is the passing efficiency formula and applied to receivers. We take the number of targets each receiver gets, throw in their catches, yards, TDs and any INTs where they were the intended target.

So it's basically the quarterback's passer rating when throwing to him, right?



But then what happens when you have a double route that could be to one of two receivers? :skeptic:
