In the last 8 fball games vs. the :utard: , we've gotten our butts kicked three times, lost two other heartbreakers that we should have won...and barely won three times by the skin of our teeth.

Kicking their @$$ in bball doesn't make up for this.

Come on, Bronco and Co! We want to kick some :utard: trash!

It's worse than that. EVERY BYU win against Utah since 1996 has involved some miracle.

1998: Kaneshiro doink off the upright.

2000: Doman on 4th & 18 to Pittman and then the long heave to Pittman again and a last second TD. (Not to mention a probable missed fumble by Staley the refs got wrong.)

2001: Staley down the sideline very late.

2006: Beck to Harline

2007: Hall to Collie on 4th & 18

2009: Hall to George in overtime.

We haven't had non-close win against Utah in a very long time.

I don't count 2009 as a miracle. Utah was lucky to be in that game. We only needed a field goal to push another overtime. I think that was our game to lose. The rest are little more miracle-like than I am comfortable with.

All those games were ours to lose. Utah was lucky to be in all those games. When is Utah going to get unlucky against us? When are all the bounces going to go our way instead of theirs?

Once again the high water mark for Utah will be their victory over us, when was the last time that our year's best victory was over them¿

And thus these have become our most memorable U games. Close wins are fine. Any losses suck, but blowout losses suck 100 times worse. Riley will win over his last three detractors if he delivers a miracle in The Rice Paddy.

Want some more pain? 2003. Yewts 3 y 0. In fact, over the past 10 games, we have only won 3. Their worst team in almost a decade just laid a 44 point beatdown on our home field.

So here's the real depressing thought: by any logical measure, the yewts have passed us by in terms of program strength.

bronco needs to turn this trend around, and pronto.

I hate having to say this, but it will never happen under Bronco. 10 win seasons vs cupcakes will always be tolerated by the vast majority of the fanbase, which is all we have and ever will achieve with him. (He's a good coach and a great fit at BYU, but he has a very low ceiling and is not a master gameplanner like the Sabans, Stoops, and Petersons of the football world.)

What is Bronco, 3-4 vs. the SNOT? Not fair to put the last ten years on a coach who hasn't been here that long. Under Bronco it looks like the "trend" is a 50-50 split.

Yes... A 50-50 split involving 3 last second wins, 2 last second losses, and 2 blowout losses.

I blame Bronco for never instilling a killer instinct in BYU's teams. "Execution" is fine, but at the same time, BYU needs to be out there "Executing" (meaning killing, and destroying) their opponents, and especially their most hated rival.

I hate how BYU never has that drive to just demolish the other team unless it's a cupcake. I really wish Bronco would just have BYU put their foot on the throat and step down.

I really like Bronco. He is a great coach, but there is a definite lack of emotion at times, and there definitely seems to be a hesitation to utterly obliterate other teams.

I wasn't very good in math class, but 3-4 IS NOT 50/50

Probably the best post I've read in a while. I suppose you could throw into the mix of master gameplanners a fella by the name of Whittingham. Woops, just threw up in my mouth.

I get the vibe that Mendenhall considers the Utah game no different than a game against Oregon St, Utah St, or New Mexico. And like you said, procuring 10 win seasons by way of beating cupcake after cupcake seems to keep the fanbase happy.

You must not have been very good in English class either; maybe you should look up the word "trend."

They're not, unless we get to the point where we're the caliber of top-5 ranked in the BCS. Why? :skeptic:

It's the BCS bias. Some conferences are stronger than others, but when BYU plays, it's stronger than normal. They hate us just because of who we are. We have to have a match-up that's similar to No. 1 in the FBS against one of the worst teams in the FBS, or against a team that's the equivalent to Idaho State in comparison. Basically, we just have to dominate every facet of the game to counter the bias to get a blow-out, especially since they're in the Pac-12, not just any big-six conference.

That's cause football is fourth. He's not spending every free minute of the day to better his team. If you want somebody better, find someone else who's going to put football first. Personally, i'm fine with this.

Look at it this way--do you want a bunch of young men who might not all get in the NFL, and have crappy lives because they weren't prepared right, or a bunch of guys (some of which might have gotten into the NFL the other way, but didn't), but Bronco led them correctly to where they can lead productive lives?

If you don't care about the other guys who wouldn't get to pros, get a new coach. But then what happens to those guys that don't make it? :skeptic:

I had a good friend who played on the team from 05-06 and he said that pretty much everyone on the team banked on making it to the NFL--even the scrubs. I don't know that a coach is going to be able to affect the ambition of sixty 19-25 year old kids. Might as well teach them killer instinct and some competitive pride--this is America after all.

3-4 isn't good enough. A fifty fifty split isn't good enough.
