1. Aside from our bowl game and MAYBE Hawaii, there's nothing of substance to talk about. That's not intended as a knock on our schedule, though you're free to read it as such. It's just that "who gives us a better chance to beat Idaho?" isn't a very sexy topic.
2. I think the realignment disappointments, Utah's Pac-12 affiliation and the Utah loss put a lot of fans in bad moods from the get-go. A lot of chippiness (towards other fans) and unreasonable expectations (not towards the team, which has underperformed, but towards the AD/front office).
3. Most importantly of all, this Riley-Heaps psychodrama has gotten ridiculous. Virtually every thread ends up touching on it, and at this point it's about as productive and enlightening as some of the lesser Bible bashes from my mission. I know where everybody stands and can usually guess who will say what on any particular thread (and that's not intended as a brag, as I assume most of the CC faithful can do the same at this point).
I like CougarCorner for providing a higher level of analysis to BYU football compared to its alternatives, but at this point Riley vs. Heaps arguments are less about learning anything about our QB situation and more about defending the point of view you adopted earlier in the season. It's not talking about BYU football anymore, it's trying to win an argument for the right to say "I told you so."
4. Finally, the Bronco-hate. It's admittedly justified on some scale, but it bothers me for two reasons. First, because on the gradient of "things I can change vs. things I can't change," it definitely falls under the latter. If analyzing Bronco's mistakes is just going to get me angry about something I can't change, then football fails the minimum test of "provide more joy than misery" that I require of any sort of entertainment.
Second, it's pointless unless a better alternative is available. I was against the Anae-hate last year for the same reason, and it's a reality BYU always has to face: good coaches are going to be hard to come by. Bronco, in my mind, currently ranks at "coaches teams that beat opponents below their talent/recruiting level, and loses to teams above their talent/recruiting level." That's about 85% of coaches. He's not Petersen, Patterson, Wittingham or Harbaugh in the sense that he can convert lesser talent into Ws against big-name teams, but aside from those 4, I can't think of many others who have done that for a prolonged period of time.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to basketball season, and hoping we can take down Utah, OSU, Wazzu, BSU and GT next year.
