It is only a 6 spot differance. Utah is tied at 42 with zero points.

Utah is 4-4 and sucks, so who really cares.

Th goal is to be compared/likened unto to the best teams, not crappy Utah teams.

There must be a digit being rounded off. You will notice a few small groups in alpha order then a break, more alpha, another break, and eventually U. I am guessing there is a subtle differentiation and it is 20 spots.

In any event - salve for your Ute envy and a blessing that we are not getting beaten down in a BCS conference.

I know being better than Utah is of upmost importance to those in Utah and is crucial for recruiting, but I think a better barometer for us would be to compare us to schools in similar circumstances.

Utah is in the Pac12 and it will be some years before they’re relevant there. They’re taking a different route to the BCS.

BYU is taking a route more akin to BCS busters, so comparing us to BSU, Houston, SMU, and other teams knocking on the BCS door is what we should be concerned about. Where do we stack up against them?

My point is that if BYU wants to be relevant, we need to schedule like a BCS Buster. My point is that you need to schedule to win. Playing a 1 and done on the field TCU had fall camp practices on was stupid. One and done with Texas - stupid.

Houston is top 15 iirc.

I completely see what you're saying and really have no issues with it. BYU does need to schedule to win and run the table. Only chance we have. Putting together 3 - 4 wins a season against Tier 1 teams is out of reach for us and we just continue to be on the outside looking in.

My only worry in doing that, though, is becoming a Hawaii where we run the table, make all sorts of noise about being included in the BCS bowl only to be blown out and have everyone say, "I told you so."

ha ha. When BYU starts beating crappy utah teams like utah then maybe we'll have something better to compare them against.

I agree with you though.

This year's schedule was fine so far as the big games go. We should have beaten Texas, Utah and TCU if we're playing up to our potential. I would rather play better teams with the chance at an upset than play all the Idaho states of the world. It's just a lot more interesting season when you're playing more big games.

Ironic, because it seems that you were one of the guys havng the hardest time accepting the losses. I will fully admit that the Texas and TCU games were two very interesting and mostly fun games to watch. They were also asinine to schedule on the road with no home game in return.

If you want to play those kind of games and give home advantage to boot, you need to get really used to losing. We had a chance to win those games. They had a chance to beat us. 0-3.

At some point you have to quit getting all hung out to dry on the hope that BYU will play to what you feel their potential is and recognize that we are who we are and we, like everyone else, do not always play to our highest theoretical potential. Texas played horribly in the first half - otherwise blowout. Conversely, if that game was in Provo - maybe we put it out of reach in that first half. TCU in Provo - maybe the punter doesn't forget how.

Now if this had been a typical Texas and TCU year and we were rebuilding - blow outs. It really is not fun to get blown out. Go on BYU TV and watch the Utah game if you like playing teams that are better at that time, and then have a few things go wrong.

We have a very young and inexperienced team that may start playing near its potential next season. Even then - it will lose to Texas and TCU on the road most years.

I think the Ute fans will handle thier 6-6 seasons better than BYU would handle theirs. We are way to spoiled. Ute fans are equally unrealistic - just not as spoiled. Until Urban Meyers, and not even consistently since then, the Ute fans didn't get spoiled by a lot of success.

Your sentence, We should have won those - is what I am talking about. They were favored. They were good teams. We were in their crib(Texas and TCU). We had inexperience and heaven knows what else going on at QB vs Texas and Utah and inexperience at TCU. And you say SHOULD. We wer the DOGS. We had a legitimate shot. We COULD have won. God does not swing games. DOGS are DOGS.

Unless you're top 15 or so, no one gives a damn about BCS rankings. The only thing that matters between :utard: and BYU is what happened on 9/17.

My point isn't really about redeeming our loss to Utah.

It is to point out that we need to be careful what we wish for in conference membership and in scheduling big name opponents OOC or as an Independent.

We are 6-3 with a blowout loss to Utah. I have lost track of how many losses Utah has, but it is at least 4. If we both win out, BYU will be ranked, whether we deserve to be or not. We will be positioned to start 2012 in the conversation - deservedly or not. We will end the season relevant and discussed and debated.

Utah will not. SOS is the reason. Most years will be the same. PAC will only give recruiting advantage if they win consistently and are in the discussion and relevant almost every year. They will not be this year. 0-1 in this new era. BYU still can be if we win out. Maybe 1-0 in this new era even with that blow-out loss.

That is how the world turns re college football. BYU needs to schedule smart. Yes recruits want to play on big stages when they win. They do not like to lose to anyone.
