3rd game 24-35 333 yards 5 tds, but it was against New Mexico, come lets keep it in perspective. BYU win
4th game 10-20 238 yards 2 interceptions, 2 touchdowns. BYU Loss to Utah (when Utah was bad)
5th Game 16-27 212 yards 3 interceptions, 2 tds, BYU loss to BCS team.
Ok, we're 5 games into this guys BYU career. It's obvious to anyone who looks at things THIS GUY IS AN INTERCEPTION MAGNET, he lost to Utah, he has gotten pulled in multiple games. He can only win against the hopeless defense and loses the big games. In the first 4 games that he has significant minutes, he has 9 interceptions, we would have definately won some more of those games if only we had a good quarterback.
Bottom line here, if we apply the reasoning of some of the individuals on this board, we dump Ty Detmer in favor of some 3rd string unknown that someone liked while he was a high school quarterback. I'm not saying that Nelson is Ty Detmer or that Heaps is Ty Detmer. I am saying that sometimes good quarterbacks are going to have bad games or bad series of games and we as fans need to get past that. Let the coaching staff develop these players. The first time Ty Detmer saw the field as a BYU cougar, he had 5 consecutive turnovers. BYU lost by 10 points. Heaps or Nelson have never been that bad. I don't think we have seen the potential of either one of these quarterbacks. They are developing, neither one is a finished product. Both will have good careers at BYU. And if Heaps is considering transferring to Utah, he needs to have a good heart to heart with Max Hall.
