I was so hoping that the Beavers (bad as they are) would smash the utes horribly. Too bad the u of u didn't throw five picks. Oh well...

And Iowa State is beating Texas Tech, and Ohio State is beating Wisconsin, and USC is beating STanford, and Georgia Tech is beating Clemson--would've been a nice week to be on the winning side against a good team.

The only reason Utah won is because they took the game out of Hays' hands. They only threw the ball 14 times, completing only 6 passes. They ran the ball 44 times. They only had 62 yard passing.



Basically Utah played not to lose against an inferior opponent and was lucky that OSU sucked and couldn't stop the run.

Makes me wonder why BYU is passing the ball so much. Everything about BYU O-line screams running game. I'd have thought that with DuPaix, we'd have seen more running.

The RB we all wanted - that went to the U - is playing back-up becasue U has made something out of three brand new RBs including a starter who just started playing football.



Norm Chow > Brandon Doman at this stage



Kyle Whittingham > Bronco Mendenhall at this stage



And Utah is a mediocre team at this stage

Focusing on our own team - It is a fun team to watch. Enjoy what it has to offer. It is starting to look like it is going to be 9-4 at best, but that beats 7-6. Let's call it progress and hope coaches and players learn from this season.

KWhitt has never played conservative, even with a big lead. He never calls off the dogs, which if why you have his teams kicking an onside kicks when up 44-0 and why you go for it on 4th down late in the 4th quarter when up by about 20 points. The simple matter is that Utah was lucky that Oregon St. sucked so bad on Saturday... You say Utah has a great defense. Where was that defense in the other 4 PAC-none games this year? Utah was fortunate to have a big lead at half time, but it wasn't really due to their own accolades, more because Oregon St. sucked so badly. You're lucky that Oregon St couldn't do what most other PAC-12 teams have done this year and stuffed your running game.



Stop acting like Utah played such a great game. They played a horrendous second half as evidenced by their 3 points scored in the final 30 minutes. Sure you won 27-8, but if this was a halfway decent Utah team it would've been 40-something to 8. Your offense in anemic, and your defense isn't as great as you tout.

What I said was is “Utah executed the game plan they had to to win.” Who cares how many times a team runs or passes? It is completely irrelevant. Utah DID play a good game (I never said “great”) and there was nothing wrong with how they did it. That is ALL I said.



Utah has severe limitations on offense this year. They simply can’t throw the ball. They are completely one dimensional.



I can’t explain why OSU’s defense couldn’t stop the run Saturday but I’d suggest it has less to do with luck than the fact that their run defense simply isn’t as good as the 4 teams that Utah has lost to. (Of course, Pitt’s run defense is #31 in the nation and BYU’s is #36 and Utah ran just fine on them so maybe Utah just gameplans and executes better some weeks than others.)



Incidentally, Utah’s last 4 PAC opponents are worse against the run than OSU so if Utah executes their game plan of run the ball, limit turnovers, and play great defense, which was my original point, I like their chances in every game going forward. If they don’t do these things they’ll lose.



And you are right on one count-Utah’s offense IS anemic. Anyone who knows anything about football can see that.



But, by the same token, to suggest that they don’t have a great defense is just absurd. Utah’s offense is not PAC-12 ready but their defense is and there is no denying that. Utah is #1 in the conference in total defense.



So to reiterate my original point-when Utah runs the ball effectively, doesn’t turn it over, and plays great defense they have a chance to win no matter the opponent. If they don’t do these things they will likely lose. How can you argue that?

Not much risk, but when Utah only runs (and predictably), most teams should beat them. Why did OSU let them gain 225 yards on the ground? :skeptic: :roll: :sulk:

I disagree. They beat us on a bad day. They're a mediocre team, all right. But that night in Provo wasn't us...it was us unfocused, without fire or passion, not determined at all.
