Because he is - and getting hung up on exact titles will get you confused.
They have had a love / hate relationship, but NC developed Sark as a QB, QB Coach, OC, and helped prepare him to be a HC.
Chow was around and had a hand in the development of all the BYU greats up through Sark.
He gets full credit for Carson Palmer and other USC glory and Philip Rivers and is still revered by USC fans.
He did nothing at UCLA who continues to do nothing, and he didn't do much in the NFL.
He was doing fine at Utah until he found himself dealing with the absolutely empty QB cupboard he was left with when Wynn went down. He certainly took us behind the woodshed. Made some half-time adjustments.
Norm Chow cannot teach a pig to sing. Norm Chow cannot make a Heisman candidate out of nothing. He has to have the right clay to work with to mold a masterpiece. But when he has had that clay, he has proven in multiple settings that he can mold a champion.
If BYU had Norm Chow this year and Utah had what they used to have, We might be undefeated, and Doman might be getting groomed to be a great future OC.
