Vai Sikahema should turn in his BYU diploma

The guy is a total tool and loves a rival program more because of a former teammate. He has now entered Gordon Monson status. I will no longer read his articles. He is a Ute lover and shouldn't be allowed on campus any more.

Agreed. I have boycotted Monson for over 2 years, and now Vai is on the list.

He's still a huge BYU fan. I'm in Phila right now so naturally went to the Philadelphia temple groundbreaking. Vai spoke and gave a great talk. Finished it with "I'm a BYU cougar". Vai has all his old buddies with the current utah team, so it's understandable that he speaks fondly of them and feels that utah is currently BYU north.



Although, it doesn't make much sense though, because either way (Nelson starting next year or transfering) Heaps is going to be on the bench. If Heaps does leave, it will just prove to me that he is soft, not a good leader, and he believes he is bigger than the team.

Wrong. He is not "still a huge BYU fan." Huge BYU fans don't suggest players should transfer to Utah.



Huge BYU fans don't trash the head coach by calling them racists.



Huge BYU fans don't have to go out of their way to prove how huge of BYU fans they are.



Huge BYU fans don't have to justify love for their team's biggest rival because they have "all [their] old buddies [on] the current Utah team.



Vai is dead to me. It the immortal words of Derek Zoolander's father:



"You're dead to me Vai. You're more dead to me than your dead mother."

He has a nephew playing for the Utes... family first. Those were his words. Don't blame him for it.

I've noticed that the media is a bandwagon business. All it takes is for something controversial to be said and everyone jumps on the bandwagon to try to feed the conversation.



The bottom line is, Heaps to utah is NOT going to happen, if he goes anywhere it will be UW. Heaps isn't going anywhere IMO. having said that, if he does, the good luck to him and don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. We don't need quitters on this team.

Wasn't the Heaps to Utah rumor started by Jake Scott? That tool has no credibility or sources in any program.

Sex and controversy sell. Media love them with a sex controversy being the best thing any journalist could hope for. Just ask Franchuck.

I particularly enjoyed the "Hansen is the best QB in the state" paragraph. :roll:



If Heaps had been an in-state HS prospect when all 3 programs were having a middling-to-down year, people would've said the same thing about him. Hansen could be all that is advertised, but you think a guy with as much experience as Vai would recognize that in any transition to a higher level of play, there's no such thing as a sure bet.

Another thing - I'm sure every QB that's ever had to redshirt or ride the pine really appreciated the insinuation that unless you're on the field, you're skills become "atrophied."

lol. ok. You guys are reacting exactly how Vai wants you to. I've certainly disagreed with a LOT of what Vai has said in the past. But he is still a BYU guy. I don't even agree with him on this issue but can understand that he believes his old coach offensive coach who is now at utah might be able to help Heaps more than the guys at BYU who he doesn't know as well.



Hawk, really? No longer would you consider him a nephew? Did Vai's nephew have an offer from BYU?



It's amazing how sensitive the whole utah issue is with some people, especially when we are disowning family members. Incredible.

Transferring almost never makes even a tiny bit of sense - and it makes none here. But if Jake does pack his bags - Utah would be a better opportunity than UW, because he would be behind a very good Soph QB who will be a Junior when Heaps redshirts, and a senior when Heaps is a Jr, and leave him battling Joe Montana's son who would also be a Sr., after backing up Price while Heaps red-shirts. Me thinks Jake Heaps would only see the field as Montana's backup in his senior year and not see it at all in his Jr. Year.



Utah has a bare cupboard and good coaches. Even there, Heaps would need to sit a year and eventually beat out someone with experience.



Bold Prediction: Utah will bring in a top JC QB to start in 2012 and 2013. If Heaps can win a starting job - better off to win it in Provo.

For a BYU guy, he seems to have written a series of articles/blogs against BYU.



Let's see here, he's saying talented QBs shouldn't play at BYU and would be stupid to try to fight through adversity and that they should transfer to Utah.



And he wrote that the BYU coaches and program is essentially racist for not hiring a Polynesian coach instead of the more qualified Du Paix they did hire.

when you're removed from the rivalry and don't spend all your time on message boards; I do think it's possible to look at Heaps situation objectively and arrive at the conclusion that a nearby team with ZERO qbs is better than you current team that you've struggled with that has THREE qbs.



I disagree with his opinion, but can see how he gets there. That doesn't mean he's not a fan. But it also doesn't mean i'm going to give him page clicks by reading the article

But there is NOTHING Heaps can do to help the Utes with their current quarterback situation. He can't help them until AFTER the Utes have signed TWO recruiting classes, who knows what kind of help they can get between now and when Jake could actually help them.

While Heaps very well may transfer, the logic Vai uses is repugnant. Is that what we are teaching young men these days? Heaps has a chance to become a man. For the first time on a football field, he is facing real adversity. This is where character is revealed. Heaps has the physical skills to be a great QB. But it has always come easy for him. But at some point, it is not going to be easy. He has found that point. Now is the point where he can lift himself up by his bootstraps, demonstrate leadership through followership by being completely loyal and supportive to the team, to the coaches and even to Riley Nelson for as long as he is the starter. And as he does that, he can look in the mirror, figure out where his shortcomings lie, correct them, and be prepared to live up to his potential when his chance comes again.



Or he can follow the path of least resistance. Which will label him a quitter.



Vai's logic shocks me. For better or worse, I thought he was a man's man. His article is the exact opposite of what we should do in trying to build men. Not sure I would want Vai in my foxhole. Maybe I am not seeing things correctly, but if he really believes what he wrote, he and I are of cut from different cloth.

I was too young for Vai's playing days at BYU, but I am turned off by his approach to BYU in recent years.



Then again, there is a very long list of BYU guys turned Ute. Whittingham, Norm Chow, and even their last president. There are plenty of player who made the transfer down, like Jake Murphy. Of course most of those do mean nothing to me now.



Of course there are also guys who transfer the other way. Uale, and Josh Sharp on the BBall team. I don't really hold it against them.



But let's just say there are shades of blue. You're not going to hear Greg Wrubel suggesting Heaps transfer to Utah. Vai just isn't true blue anymore. It happens...But I'll be darned if it ever happens to one of my kids. They can go where ever they want for school, but my money is going to BYU as tuition or a donation. Their choice.



I don't think Jake is done yet, and if he does jump ship I think it says a lot about him, in a bad way.
