TCU's speedy wide recievers

Watched True Blue this week and they spent some time talking about how there are no NFL teams that have two wide recievers as fast as TCU. This true? How does our secondary manage that?

They don't.



Seriously, though, we'll have to drop a safety back further and my guess is we'll see the CBs lining up 7 yards behind the line in an effort to keep TCUs speedy receivers in front of them. Which means we'll rely on our LBs to stop the short yard tosses. TCU will likely have us all day on sideline routes.



Pressure on the QB will be an absolute must in this game.

Not our forte. We'd better hope TCU tries to run on us all day. Little chance of that though since they've torn us up passing the ball the last 3 years because our secondary is so weak. Those who turn to stats to try to hide this fact will get a rude awaking on Friday.

We manage it with cover 2/3 zones, and not man to man, that's how. Expect to see a lot of 3 safety sets Friday night, just as we ran last Saturday, on passing downs. I think BYU used the ISU game to try out some new schemes. 3-3-5 defense is back, just with less blitzing and more zones. Mees will play more and chances are that we see less of Tree on passing plays.

Actually, I believe we were running a 2-4-5 against ISU. Most of the time we had Van Noy and Pendelton lining up as if they were DE's and then there were two down linemen. Carter Mees probably saw the most action he ever has during that game.

Sorry guys, TCU has two receivers faster than anybody in the NFL? that is complete nonsense, and once you get to 4.5 speed, 4.3 is not significant, it's just fast.



What makes this defense a little different though is our linebackers, and what makes this TCU game a little different is Dalton for TCU is gone, and Nelson for BYU is here. This will be a close game, if BYU doesn't turn the ball over, BYU will win, if they do...chances are small.

True, but both Fuga and Fangupo sat, and Putnam barely saw action. Bronco rested our D-line. I still think we play 3 up front because we have t respect their run, but I also think we will see and extra safety on passing downs. Would not mind an extra corner. Put Hadley at Boundary and bring Sampson in instead of Mees as extra DB.

Yes, it's the pass defense that has given up 5 TD passes in 8 games, is ranked 19th in PER defense, and 8th in Interceptions, and two players in the top 50 of passes defended. We have a very good pass defense.

Spiff - we got some fans that expect a receiver to never get open let alone catch a pass. They will tolerate a pass caught behind the line of scrimmage as long as the receiver gets tackled for a loss.

As I said I believe these stats are inflated because our front 7 has been so good at keeping teams in 3rd and long situations. If we shut down TCU's passing defense I'll change my tune. But to date we have not played a team with the kind of passing game we'll see on Friday. UCF and Utah were decent tests, however.

These stats are inflated. We won't be able to get pressure on the qb, going back to the way it was before the last 3 cupcakes. Except this team actually can pass the ball.



The only way we win is if we win a shootout, and score mid - 30's in points at least.



I don't see that happening. I really hope it does, though.

Our pressure on QBs (minus Idaho State) has been awful. I just don't see us getting a whole lot of pressure on Pachall in this game. Might be a good time to give Ziggy some good meaningful reps assuming he's cleared to play.

The other fact is that the teams we play are below average, some well below average, in the NCAA in the passing game, and TCU is #9. This stat will be challenged.

We are containing teams' passing game right now by dropping 7-8 into coverage. Hence the reason we never get pressure on the QB as well as the reasons our rush defense suffers. This will be a true test. TCU can run the ball and pass the ball. If we have to have 8 in coverage to stop their passing game they are going to put up 300 yards rushing on us.
