The Super Least Conference

So it looks like ESPN is reporting the Big Least, MWC and C-USA are thinking of joining forces to create the super least conference.



I think this would be a good deal for the other BCS conferences as they won't have to take any more non-BCS teams (or at most one), but could be very bad for BYU as an independent because the BCS won't take anymore non-BCS teams.



I liked the idea they have about having a tournament to get the BCS slot for the new league, which I think would lead to a full-blown tournament for all of DI football.



Thoughts.

My thought is that while various schools and leagues are all jockeying to improve their BCS standings, or to gain better access, BYU is standing pat and doing nothing. Some might say that so is Notre Dame, but they do not have to do anything because they already have priority BCS access, and we do not. We have no such luxury, yet we do nothing. Hard to not think we are getting passed by.

Why is there this widespread notion that BYU's front office is botching everything when we a) don't know what options were ever on the table, b) don't know what BYU did with any of these hypothetical options, and c) have no idea what affirmative steps BYU is taking to create their own options?



I understand the frustration at how this has all played out, but I don't understand the frustration directed at our own institutions.

Question. It's been mentioned that the Big East is in danger of losing its AQ status when the next evaluation comes (2013?) Why wouldn't Notre Dame's status be in jeopardy as well? They haven't been relevant for 10 years.

Depends on your definition of relevance. If you're talking about relevance on the field, then no, they haven't been. But if you're talking about viewers, which is what drives BCS revenue (they can't shell out the money they do if ESPN/FOX/whoever else aren't bidding up the price of the contract), and by extension the BCS bylaws, then Notre Dame is definitely relevant, and will be until NBC sees that their ratings are tanking during ND games and dumps their exclusive contract with them. So far there is nothing to indicate this will ever happen, despite playing consistently below their brand and talent level.
