Agreed. I don't think I've seen another player generate the kind of exposure for his school that Jimmer generated for the Y last year. Jimmer alone had more time on Sportscenter last season than the entire WAC has had in the last 10 years combined.

IMO it matters very little.

If you have two schools that are roughly comparable in football prowess, TV market, game attendance, etc. then the next money sport is basketball and could very well serve as the tie-breaker/decision maker for a conference.

No, it matters a lot. Consider the highest seed we ever got as a MWC invite to the tourney. Now bump that up a few rounds each year because of "perceived conference strength."

If you don't think seeding matters in the tourney, you are flat out crazy. The tourney is completely stacked to favor the 1's and 2's.

I wasn't saying it doesn't matter MBB. Rather that MBB doesn't drive the realignment in the first place.

I would agree with you, for the most part, except that both the Big XII and the Big east have had articles about their expansion saying that it does matter some to their committees and that they are taking basketball prowess into account. And there's no doubt that the ACC looked at basketball heavily when adding Pitt and Syracuse.

Yep.

What is driving these discussions/expansions is money and survivability (so as to obtain more money). Basketball absolutely factors into it. But thanks for clarifying your position, and I agree with you BYU isn't the main driver of this bus.

I thought that you were saying that it doesn't matter what conference we are in for Mbball, because of the tourney. It definitely does. :)
