Our Signature Win This Year Is...

Provided we lose to TCU (because that's what we do), let's look at our sweet victories:



Ole Miss, 2-5 overall, 0-4 in SEC.

UCF, 3-4 overall, 1-2 in mighty CUSA

Utah St, 2-5 overall, 0-2 in mighty WAC

San Jose St, 3-4 overall, 2-1 in mighty WAC

Oregon St, 2-5 overall, 2-2 in the PAC 12

Idaho St, 2-6 overall, 1-4 in the mighty Big Sky



I know everybody is excited about our 6 wins, but hopefully that puts it into perspective. If it doesn't, we can reflect on the 54-10 in our house that we'll be hearing about for the next decade (and deservedly so).



So the winner is...probably San Jose St or our loss to Texas. That's pretty pathetic. I guess the problem for me is the expectation factor. I think we all felt like we had a really great chance at being great.



Did anyone else have a hard time getting up for games vs Utah St, Idaho St, New Mexico, and the other crap teams after what happened against the Pukes? I really hate having that game early on.

I'm beginning to wonder if Utah was a result of too much, too early.



I'm not arguing for a weaker schedule. Just saying that if thy Utah game was played later, maybe BYU would have put together a better game plan. Even if Wynn wasn't injured.

1. If you are going to really suck and stink up the joint, early in the season is better.

2. I am too blue goggled to not be excited about Friday. Yes, conventional wisdom says that we will loose. But those are the games that are the most fun to win.

3. If this team can pull off an upset against TCU, and if OSU can pound the pukes. The Utah game will be seem like more of the fluke that it probably was.

4. I'm going to make a voodoo doll of Gary Patterson with velcro shoe straps instead of laces. ;)

TCU game tells us a lot about this team and where it is. No where near top-25 right now, or elite, but get a win, and that perception just might change.

I agree. However, maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd lose all of our games if we could beat Utah. Sometimes I question whether or not I like BYU more than I despise Utah....and I'm serious.



It bothers me that so many other "fans" seemingly consider Utah just another game (not insinuating that you personally do). When Brady Hoak was hired at Michigan they asked him what his #1 goal was and he responded "beat Ohio". That's a man who understands rivalries. I don't think Bronco feels that way. I get upset when I think about the wins that we have had over Utah the past 4 or 5 years. How come all of our wins are down to the minute but whenever Utah beats us, they spank us. I think a blowout win is long overdue.

I was hoping that blowout win would be this year with Heaps throwing 8 TDs 4 each to Apo and Hoffman... I was disappointed

Brady Hoke has to say that when Tressel went 9-1 (or something crazy like that) against Michigan. The first step to feeling like a legitimate program is restoring balance to your rivalries. You can't talk about NCs and BCS bowls when you need to first stop being a little brother to your rivalry partner.



I understand your point in your first post, but I disagree heavily with your second post. I really only care about the rivalry as it pertains to in-state recruiting (which does leave me concerned). I could care less about the smack-talk aspect; it's not like the Ute knuckleheads who heckle me were the actual football players that personally beat me by 40 points on the field. Besides, if BYU was 1-7 with a win over Utah but losses to Utah State, SJSU and Idaho State, this season would be the biggest failure since the Lavell Edwards era started and no amount of Wasatch smack talk would change that.

WHen all is said and done - OSU may end up standing out. Otherwise, SJSU. But if we whip TCU - definite winner there.

The worst thing for me is after seeing the entire body of work of both teams, we should have never lost that game. I rarely look back at season's and wish we could have a game back, in 2009, I wanted the FSU game back. This year it is utah. utah is a bad team this year and we should have never lost to them.

It's dumb to talk about "our signature win for the year" when the year isn't over.

Okay, maybe I wouldn't sacrifice all other games to beat Utah, but I'd certainly give up 2 or 3. Like I said, maybe I'm in the minority, but I can't stand losing to Utah.

I am expecting New Mexico State not New Mexico. But that is not my point as they are only slightly better than NM.



You seem to be forgetting TCU and what would appear to potentially be a very good bowl game opponent.



Maybe the signature win will come in there somewhere even though we will likely be the dog in both games.

Texas could have been. Utah could have even approximated a signature win. TCU is the only one that could look that way. If we beat Hawaii, great! BUt not a signature win. TCU is it.

He didn't say you forgot TCU, but that you omitted them. Leaving them out because of a loss that it not guaranteed is purposefully omitting what could be a signature win.

So far this year it's Utah State - not so much because of who they are, but because of the way it happened. The big comeback with a new quarterback, which completely turned the season around.



I'm hoping on Friday we'll have a new "signature win" to discuss.
