Our Scout Team is Helping improve the starters

Desnews article and Total Blue Sports indicate that there is some real talent with the freshmen. Shaun Nua (grad assistant) helps the ST offense simulate whatever opponent our 2-deep defense will play against. Brandon Ogletree thinks our ST OL is better than some of the OL they play against during the season. The players mentioned that are performing well on offense:



Alex Kuresa /QB

Adam Hine/ RB (described as a beast)

Ryan Folsom and Nate Carter / RB

Terenn Houk / WR

Michael Yeck, Brock Stringham, Manu Mulitalo, Solomne Kafu, Manaaki Vaitai / OL



This format prepares them for next season and helps them develop against the first team.



Both Kuresa and Hine have earned a spot on the traveling squad that is going to HI based upon their play.

wait this is the same Alex Kuresa that can't throw the ball more than 10 yards and is supposed to be the next Riley Nelson? Can't wait to see him fail. ;)

Yeah - he had the same success as Riley in HS and tabbed a real winner. Looks like BYU has no judge of QB talent - all they know how to do is win.

Before we get all excited - heard this about guys like Drew Philips and others last year - where are they now?

Big difference between them - it is called motivation, dedication, ability to adjust to the unique campus environment, and having to prove themselves all over again (entitlement not accepted). It is required both on the field and in the classroom. Keoshian, Fabuluje and Phillips all struggled with one of these aspects despite coming in with high expectations. The guys mentioned on the scout team seem to have accepted their roles on the team, have adjusted to them, and take pride in seeing the team progress as they are contributing behind the scenes and without much fanfare or credit. Takes a special person to do that - need to check your pride at the door.

This is simply not true. Players only improve by playing. They cannot improve by being on a scout team or practicing. They must be in games. If players are the future of a position they must play now or have their progress stunted.

Spiff, I think you're dead wrong. If all you need is game time, Heaps would have had great numbers and outcomes this year in games and Max Hall would have been unproductive as a sophomore. But, I just reread your post and think you were being TIC.

Yeah, my sarcasm detector was firing on all cylinders when I read Spiff's post.

This isn't good. The last time we heard good things about how well the scout team was doing Max Hall was the QB. And we all know how that turned out. ;)
