BYU's 2012 Football Schedule

A lot of the dates are TBA or need to be moved (GaTech), but with the addition of Wazzou, BYU now has a full slate of opponents for 2012.



I think this is a good schedule for BYU:



Home games:

Wazzou

Weber State

Oregon State

Utah State

Idaho

Hawaii



Away Games:

Georgia Tech

Utah

Boise State

Notre Dame

New Mexico State

San Jose State



I'd still like to trade one more junker for the Big Sexy game we lack (sorry, but ND and BSU don't get me there), but there is higher quality across the board. It's a good ramp up schedule to prep us for 2013.

Not a bad schedule at all. I like it.

And with the exception of the Utah game you can pretty much say "on TV" next to it - I don't see Utah being picked up by the PAC 12 networks, nor allowing BYUtv to broadcast the game - so we're a bit stuck with that.

That's not a bad schedule. We get three Pac-10 teams we can beat (I'm assuming that we will, in fact, beat :utard: again sometime in my lifetime), a national BCS team, America's darling team, a second in-state rival, and then some confidence builder/ recovery games. I agree that it would be nice to have one more high quality team, but this is a good schedule for BYU. Definitely winnable, with enough credibility to get us to a BCS game if we win them all.

In which direction are these programs trending?



NMSU, SJSU,Weber and Idaho are teams we should/must beat any given year, even if they improve.



Oregon State should be better. I thought their young QB and RB both looked pretty good, actually.



USU loses Turbin. The more I see of Keaton, the less I fear his future.



BSU's probably going to be down next year, though I don't think anyone knows how far.



This is supposed to be Wazzu's "do or die" year, right? I remember reading they lose a lot of talent this year, but they are trending in the right direction.



Hawaii loses Moniz, right?



GT has one loss this year, but it's to a team that needed OT to put Idaho away. So who knows?



Utah will be Utah.



ND seems like they're getting better season-to-season. Young QB.



I count 4-5 easy wins (SJSU, NMSU, Idaho, Weber; Utah State's becoming more of a wild-card), 3 "should wins" (WSU, OSU, Hawaii), and 4 challenging-to-worrisome games (Utah, GT, ND, BSU). What do you guys think?

SJSU will be tough - not a gimme game.



They get a transfer from MI at QB and return a some fast RBs (Erwin), their TE and WRs. They are a team on the rise with a very good offense. The key will be how well their defense steps up to compliment their O.

This is good.. enough good teams to make noise, but it's not horrible difficult. With Riley being a senior and more experience at skill positions, we should do well.

This schedule is "horrible." "It sucks to be independant." How could the Board do this to us?!! I want my money back! I know a lot of donors who are going to stop donating to this university. I know a lot of fans that are going to cheer for the U now.

Georgia Tech is not a home game in 2012.

so I believe we have six at home and 6 away with virtuatlly all of our "difficult" games away. notre dame away, utah away, boise state away, georgia tech away. yeah, we are lucky if we win 10 games next year with that schedule.

Too difficult. I would prefer to dump one of those tougher away games - replace it with a sure win - and play your Big Sexy game in a BCS Bowl when it really matters. But I see your point. Even with what I suggested, we are probably going to lose 2 or 3 others and won't see a BCS Bowl - so you want Big and Sexy.



I am fine with Big and Sexy on occasion on a home and away basis and never on any other basis. even too much of that will get you a year like Ty Detmer's Senior Season.



His Junior Season was fine. One really big and sexy right up front - I was there - that was a legit Miami team and we beat them. But we lost to someone else on the way to the Heisman and then two in a Row. But Detmer's Sr. Season - the one that was supposed to be magical - returning Heisman QB - started out 0-3 and added a couple of tie games along the way.





We should - if Riley stays healthy - have an experienced QB for 2012. Big if. If not - what do we have? Not sure. If we have about what we have had the last two years - expect to lose 5 or 6 games in 2012. How is that going to sit.



I think we will be stronger in 2012. I am optimistic that even if it falls back to Jake Heaps, he will be readier than he was this year. Lark wil be readier. But there is little forgiveness in that schedule.



Here is what I think might make schedules a little more palatable without jeopardizing BYU being relevant.



We still need winnable games. Every week. On the high end - tone it down a little bit and do not give any advantages like 2 for 1 or (un)neutral fields. On the low end - take a little of the extra frosting off of the cupcakes. We do not need a double frosted ISU - UNLV would still serve the purpose. New Mexico is nearby. CSU. USU. Idaho. Nevada. Own our region and mix in a little Notre Dame here and there if and only if they wil play us straight up. Otherwise get some 1 for 2s with UTEP, SDSU, Houston, SMU.



Go undefeated and play Bama, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, etc. when it counts - BCS Bowl.
