Schedule

Everyone keeps saying that Riley has gotten the benefit of an easier schedule. I am calling BS on this. Our entire schedule is crap. Ole miss....crap, Texas just got thier hats handed to them by OU and OSU, utah....crap, UCF is very average at best, USU just lost to a crappy Fresno state team, and Oregon State is one of the worst teams in the Pac 12. In fact SJSU just might end up being one of our stronger opponents since they just Beat Hawaii who was picked to win the conference. So what I am saying is Heaps played against Crap opponents and looked like Crap. At least Riley is looking like an actual BYU QB while beating up on crap teams.

I agree to an extent. Jury's still out on Texas, but they've played two of the four best teams in the nation these last two weeks. I'd give them some slack, especially since in both games, their pass defense has been legit all season. (Oddly enough, that 1st half was one of Heaps' better showings). Ole' Miss looks more and more unimpressive, though. Beating them by 1 point is not a resumé bullet point.



I wanted to mention this in an earlier thread, but UCF's defense is a specter of a apparition of a mirage. Seriously. The only decent pass team they've faced all year is SMU.

the 2 best teams we've played this year are Texas and SJSU. And they are both crap teams. We haven't played anyone good this year at all, and by the end of the year, we may have only played 1 or 2 teams with a winning schedule (almost all of which will be even worse cupcakes than they are).

Ole Miss sucks.



Texas has lost to a team that will play in the title game and a team that will play in a BCS game. Texas might win out, or lose to Texas A&M.



Utah has the chance to win out against teams like UCLA, Cal, WSU, Colorado, and Arizona.



UCF is decent, for what they are.



USU doesn't know how to finish games. There really is no excuse for losing to Auburn, CSU, or BYU this year with the way they played, let alone all 3 of them. They are a better team than Fresno, but just can't figure out how to win.



SJSU isn't very good at all, but they may be better than USU.



OSU is pretty bad, but they do have some talent. They should be better going forward.



If you look at it, Heaps did start against our better opponents, but Nelson has still shown that he is the one that should be playing.

stuckin - I disagree with your comments about UCF and USU. USU got absolutely blown out by Fresno St., the game was ugly the second it got to the 2nd half. They are no where near as good as Fresno.



UCF came into the BYU game with an illusion of decentness because they had played no one. Since then they've lost to every 1/2 decent team they've played.

I totally agree. Pick any team from 2006-2009 and BYU is undefeated right now. Texas is not impressive, especially the day they played BYU. utah got a gift, they aren't anywhere as good as their score was vs BYU.

I can't believe that anyone here really thinks that SJSU is one of the 2 best teams we've played. Ridiculous. You line that team up against ANY other team we've played so far this year, and they get their butts handed to them. That is a complete garbage team. I don't care if they beat Hawaii by a point. They are the worst team we've played so far.

I wrote an article about "the season." BYU's success in 2011 would be judged in how they performed in six games (Ole Miss, Texas, Utah, Oregon St, TCU, Hawaii). So far we're 2-2 and looked good in only one of them, awful in another and mediocre at best in the other two.



If we go 2-0 in the final two games of "the season" we can probably salvage a decent year.

So, the fact that they've beaten a team who beat a team we played, that means nothing? I wouldn't say they're a garbage team, unless you compare them to other garbage like USU. Comparable teams at best. In fact, SJSU's Sagarin ranking 90 and USU's is 84, pretty close if you ask me.

It's a blight on the season for sure, but I don't want to define this or any other year by the Holy War.

The 2006 team lost to Arizona who was no better than Texas, Utah, or UCF this year



The 2007 team lost to UCLA who was not better than Texas or Utah this year



Texas is better than any team we beat in 2008.



You might be right about 2009. Although, I think Texas is marginally better than FSU was that year.

SJSU our 2nd best team this year? That is just flat out nuts... Texas SOS has already been mentioned earlier, and Utah has one of the best, if not THE best defense we will see all season. Including whoever we play in the Armed Forces Bowl. Also, I know you can't really go year to year, but didn't Utah beat SJSU like 50 something to 10 last year? Man, people are just getting silly in here. :skeptic:

Utah with Wynn was decent and they still have a good defense. Texas in the first half was pathetic. That was almost a gift to us following Ole Miss near gift to us. Then Texas made a change and got better. They are not a juggernaut, but better than the others.



But to say Ole Miss and UCF are somehow in group A and better than Group B is denial.



Try to follow this. We beat Ole MIss and UCF with our poor performing QB. USU was kicking our butts and it was not even close with that same poor performing QB.

Both decent respectable but not great teams.



Throw the rest in a bag and have them play each other twice home and away and you would have a bunch of .500 teams. Ole Miss probably gets to play Auburn. Make that comparison to USU. They are all mediocre - they are not horrible. Horrible is coming up. Beating them is better than losing to them and Heaps was about to lose to USU until Nelson saved the season.



The weak schedule is coming up. Except TCU Group A. Throw Hawaii in with Group B.
