Injuries from OSU Game

Fangupo - ankle - x-ray negative

Kaveinga - knee

Wilson - knee

Pendleton - ????

Fuga - ??????

Hadley - stinger



This was a very hard hitting game and OSU also had at least five players (3 LBs and 2 DLs) sent out of the game with injuries.

Bronco indicated there will be several MRIs in the morning - Sunday, but he did not know status and didn't want to creat concern or falsely diminish it about any player.



He did seem to indicated that Pendleton would be fine and that it was just a hard hit in the chest while he had to wait for the ball to cross the neutral zone on that play. Why he was even on the field escapes me - as the game was over.

TE Richard Wilson is out with a torn ACL and MCL. Looks like Friel will have to step up in his place.



Fangupo has a sprain, haven't heard any details about Fuga. Apparently Pendleton and Kaveinga should be able to play this Saturday.

LB Kaveinga had a leg injury when he left the game but has also been cleared to play.



Safety Mike Hague has a probable broken nose suffered when he made a tackle on the kickoff when his helmet popped off - that is one tough dude.

Boy, it could have been much worse. But if we have to lose someone at one position, TE is the place because we have so many really good players there. Tough out for Wilson, but Friel will be the best of all the TEs in that group.

You think some equipment guy should be held accountable for those chin straps. I have noticed this in earlier games, but this one was rediculous re helmets popping off. I bet it happened more than a dozen helmets and maybe as many as 20.



Maybe someone figured they were like ski bindings and should pop off to prevent injury when grabbed - if so, tighten the bindings.

honestly i love his heart but i wish he would have used his brain and not tackled without his helmet like that. now we are even thinner at safety then we already were without him.



pendleton go tthe wind knocked out of him. he is fine.



feel really bad for richard wilson. that is a real bummer. he was just starting to get his stride.

This has been an ongoing problem for years now. Without actual stats, it seems that BYU helmets come off regularly and more often than the opposing teams helmet.



It appears that every time a helmet comes off that the snaps on the chinstrap have released. So the problem is not how tight the straps are cinched but the snaps themselves. There are different grades of snaps, some being more secure than others. The best ones only go on one way and come off one way. Either they need to upgrade the snaps or someone is installing them wrong. I suspect it is a matter of upgrade to heavy duty. The sad thing about this is it is an easy and inexpensive fix.

This helmet issue isn't limited to this year though, think about how many times pitta lost his helmet. We've had this issue for a while now, but this year is the worst. I remember max hall had this problem and they had to switch his helmets two or three times. Byu needs to fix this though, it is extremely dangerous. This has been an issue with me for years.

A broken nose won't keep him out - but they better fix that chin strap.

I have never seen so many helmets fly off in one game... Hague's nose was bleeding pretty bad.

I put the blame for the helmets popping off on the players. The most likely excuse is they are not utilizing their straps correctly. If I were Bronco I would make a new rule, your helmet comes off, you sit for the next 3 plays you would normally be in, no matter what. That would fix the problem in 1 game.
